How in the hell did this even make it past the starting line let alone got some funding for it ?

If you read the article, it's not a way to kill yourself. It's a way for people who don't like donating blood to do so without paying attention to it.
Why did it get suspended?
Things involving needles and blood extraction always makes me feel really uneasy. Reminds me of something you'd see in a dystopian future movie

That'd be a cool stand to have at conventions. Play games, donate blood.

That'd be an awful idea. No one should donate blood unless they're planning to in advance, and therefore have a ride home.
what happens if the game or the controller glitches out and the rumble pack keeps sending signals non-stop and you get all your blood drained out
