Ugh, glad to know that I wasn't overprotective of my ears all this time. I always cover my ears when there is VERY loud music or sounds and people think I'm a weirdo. Fuck them, though, I want to keep my good hearing.
I suffer from Tinnitus and have had it as long as I can remember. Apparently it runs in my family but the video doesn't really explain how it could be inherited. You get used to it and learn to drown it out, but it can get really annoying.

For the longest time I thought tinnitus was what silence was supposed to sound like. As I get older it's gotten worse. I can sometimes come off as not very bright simply because I can't understand what someone is saying. I have to stop and be like "Could you say that one more time? Slower..." For instance, the other day a washing machine was delivered to me and I heard the guy say: "My daddy got frog tied." What he actually said was "My dolly got flat tire." Didn't help that he was Japanese.

The most disheartening responses when people hear it have been: "Oh shit, my neighbour has that - he can't get any sleep and just nervously smokes outside his front door all night." and "Oh no, my aunt just got that and her life is in utter shambles." Not exactly comforting words, but I guess it's stuff people tend to say when they haven't experienced it themselves.
If you're going to a concert or a club or something, get some ear plugs. You'll be able to hear the music and your friends just fine, just you won't be destroying your ears. If you haven't been exposed to much loud noise and it's getting worse you may want to get that looked into.
yep then all the normal people will be able to identify you as a weirdo easily and avoid you this is a good idea
you can get discreet ones. all those normal people can suck it and enjoy their tinnitus.
yep then all the normal people will be able to identify you as a weirdo easily and avoid you this is a good idea
Oh no my social image around strangers will be ruined I must not do this and let my ears be damaged. I also have tinnitus, I used to have a few seconds of ringing once in a blue moon, and about 4-5 months ago it started being permanent (I was in my bed when it suddenly felt like someone had turned on an electronic right next to my ear at max volume, prevented me from sleeping for 2 days), now I simply have to not think about it (especially not when going to bed, but it's hard to "remember to forget") which is easier said than done, but it's either get used to it or go nuts because you think about it too much.
I get tinnitus a lot, but I don't often frequent loud areas, and I keep my music pretty quiet. I think it has more to do with my brain, than it does my ears.
i always thought this had to do with a change in sound level rather than a really loud noise like if i turn off my computer my ears ring a bit since its so quiet by comparison
I gave myself Tinnitus, which has since gone away but it took nearly a year, just by playing Arma 2. Basically, with JSRS sound mod, the sound effects are really good, and very realistic, and I couldn't help but play it with my headphones on cranked as loud as they would go. After a few months to a year of playing regularly online Co-op, I got a chirp in my right ear and constant ringing that I realized was there and wasn't going away. Since then I stopped playing anything even close to loud and it's gone away
I get tinnitus a lot, but I don't often frequent loud areas, and I keep my music pretty quiet. That's why you hear weird things in an anechoic chamber
I always thought when I put music on in my car its really loud but then from outside my car you can barely hear it unless you are near the car, yet tons of people I know and random people always blast it so loud that I can hear it from almost a block away, I wonder if a lot of people I know have permanent damage or if I just have better hearing.
You only get one set of ears and if you choose looks over protection then you're an idiot, likewise anyone who takes the piss out of earplugs isnt worth knowing let alone trying to get in their knicks. Anyway had tinnitus for 7 years most days i dont notice it and i do things to counter it without knowing. But its still something i'd do anything to be rid of. Having to sleep with a fan / tv or radio on is not fair on my partner. So yeah dont let vanity fuck up your life. Wear earplugs or say goodbye to silence cause you'll never hear it again. ( mine wsas caused by work accident)
Going to a few loud concerts every now and then won't give you permanent damage hearing damage lol
Going to a few loud concerts every now and then won't give you permanent damage hearing damage lol
Getting a cheap pair of ear plugs won't either.
Going to a few loud concerts every now and then won't give you permanent damage hearing damage lol
Ignorance does not protect your hearing and from person experience, Just one concert can fuck you. Its not an accumilation type deal. One decibel too loud for your ears and you've had it.
I know that feel of trying to sleep with what seems like three different pitches of white noise playing at once, I accidently shot a handgun without ear protection my ears rang for a month.
For your guys' reference, the longer you're exposed to a loud sound, the more ear protection you need to prevent damage. The industrial standard is if you're exposed to an 85 db noise for a period of 8 hours, you should wear ear plugs to prevent damage. For example: If you're exposed to 85 db for 8 hours, it would cause the same damage as if you were exposed to 100 db for 1 hour, or if you were exposed to 130 db for 1 minute. Anything over that is capable of causing permanent damage to ears. You can use this to calculate it. It's important to know if you frequent clubs or concerts, since the typical noise level in a club or at a concert is 100-110 db.
