Some footage by CIA compilled back in 80s or something. It's funny to look at it now.
Oh man. My parents told me what they heard about the US: things like "the rotting capitalism", that the US oppresses black people (this was much later than the 60s, mind you), and etc. [editline]28th September 2012[/editline] Though one sad thing is that this is still happening today, and not just in Russia. Like that fuck up during the Russian election, where some channel tried to lead people into thinking that instead of relatively peaceful protests, there were riots and shit, or how a Russian channel ran a 'documentary' about how the entire opposition is actually controlled by the US government.
'American young people are receiving militarist brainwashing.' I'm not going to lie but that's about every young person with access to video games at this rate (no doubt many of the boy playing games like CoD or Battlefield).

(I probably wouldn't even be posting this here either)
I think the American and Soviet versions of America are based in the same truths, they're just exaggerated in opposite directions.
Wow, that was actually really interesting. I've always wondered what the Soviet people thought of us, and now I guess I know what and why.

I have a fuckload of hours in BFBC2 and BF3, and some MW3. But I don't think shit like "russia is gonna invade" or "we strike first so we don't get hit first" or something in that manner of sillyness. Even little kids would know the difference. The thing is the setting. Games like battlefield and cod aren't trying to educate us to the terrors of russia (That last bit was sarcasm) or anything like that, we see them as methods of entertainment. Now if it was in an educational format or we were getting anti-russia propaganda on TV then it would be different. When I say educational format I mean like sort of a PSA thing.
Honestly, i know quite a few people (age 15-30) who believe Russia still is a major enemy of the US and that seems to come from 1. Parents and grandparents having fear of Russia and Communism. 2. Some of it can be attributed to people taking video games too seriously.
the ciagov youtube page as a bunch of interesting videos.
It's important to understand that this video is ironically obfuscating certain things and illuminating certain other things about Russian media. It was also selectively interviewing people-- how could a dissident have spoken out on camera? The gist of it is probably true, but was made by the CIA after all. Not the most objective single-source.
We also brainwashed our civilians so we can't really blame Russia.
fucking communists

While I do believe having a strong military is required when you're in the position the US is in, I always advocate diplomacy first and war as the very, very last resort. Not to mention I wish to cut defense spending, don't think Russia is evil, etc. Shooting people on a computer is fun, real war is not. I know the difference.
you know research says the people who think they're the most immune to subconscious messages are actually the least immune to it.
Interestingly my grandparents didn't speak about the US anything like what in the video, though I guess that might have something to do that they have some relatives that fled to the west when the Soviets came
Wait a minute! Should the thread title not be in reverse? "Americas media's portrait of Soviet media"
Wait a minute! Should the thread title not be in reverse? "Americas media's portrait of Soviet media"
nope, that's pretty much how it was
Soviets were generally right about America though.
