Well here's the Sony trailer.. I expected this but still.. Fuck you Sony.
i need some sources too [editline]6th December 2015[/editline] polygon isn't a reliable source for me
I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that since the hardware is old they will have trouble making it so you can use your PS2 Discs on your PS4, and Nintendo actually had the same problem when it came to running GBA games on the 3DS (Yes I know it was download only but my point still stands) so it's not entirely out of the yard...same with very old PC games. But I will say this, charging people 15 bucks (20 Australian) to buy a game from the early 2000s is bullshit. I mean fucking PS1 games like Metal Gear and Silent Hill still go around for 15 AUD, and they are fucking years old. Either make them free, or make them incredibly cheap. Like 5 bucks. Also fuck you for making me re-purchase my PS3 games. Do what Microsoft did, insert, redownload, bam done. And it's more possible because it was just last gen, 3 years ago. Fuck you for making me have to pay for PS+....and fuck Sony for upping the PS+ 3 Month Subscription by an extra 8 bucks. I would love for my PS2 games to be shoved in and played like that, but you do have to consider the technical limitations, but it's not an exception for PS3 games. He is right though, Sony was Pro-Consumer back in the 7th Gen, you could share accounts and download games from it, you could play online for free, and if you got an early model, you could just play your PS2 games on it without having to rebuy it. Now they are not. Bunch of bullshit.
A few of the games they're releasing are going for more than $20 USD used. So $15 for a digital copy, with added trophy support/re-playability and better performance is a good thing.
I was expecting at the very least to let you play the digital copies that are for PS3, but fuck this.

Should be 5 dollars MAX and you should be able to use your old discs. Or you can just get your old PS2/emulate the games on PC at a higher resolution and not give them money.

Yo just get a Ps2

Does anyone have any idea how hard it is to emulate the PS2? Both the PS2 and PS3 have notoriously complex hardware that is incredibly hard to properly emulate. $10-15 is a bit steep, sure, but when you look into just how much dev time went into that PS2 emulator and into game-specific fixes for every game they release for digital download, then factor in that the original publisher is still going to take a large cut of the money, it makes more sense. Also, as someone pointed out earlier, chances are the PS4 just can't even read anything from the specially formatted PS2 discs. EDIT: nevermind they're normal DVDs, this part is BS yeah Anyway just get a PS2 slim if $15 is too much.

Bunch of bullshit.
I don't know man but ps2 games are simply dvd's (I know they are formatted for ps2 but still), it should be pretty easy for Sony to recognize and read the discs with their emulator. I mean you can run ps2 dvd's from your pc's dvd drive with PCSX2 so yeah.
You can get GTA 3 physical, a copy that will be around forever as long as you take care of it and can never be removed via digital corporate shit, in perfect condition, for 7.99, compared to a non-physical PS4 version with minimal updates that's digital and can always be pulled away at any moment should the companies who 'own' it decide they want to pull it or if any number of unforeseen future events happen, for $15. So uh, why would I get this again?
Gee, a company trying to make profits? Do you guys think they should just give it to you for goodwill? I don't agree with charging for PS3 games, however if they spent money on getting them to work, you are really just paying for a new version of those games. Its like, you don't OWN the PS4 version just because you bought the PS2 and PS3 versions.

Then having to sit within a metre of the PS2 cause of the wired controllers, along with the physical shape of them being so inferior to the current DS4 is well worth $15 to me. The added trophy support gives me a lot more reason to replay these games than just for nostalgia.
Dude, that's not even remotely how it works.
I know that they are formatted differently.. what I meant was that the team from the emulator PCSX2 gave us a means to run ps2 dvd's from our pc's dvd drive. Why would this be a problem for sony?

I've ripped just about my while library as easily as right clicking with MagicISO, and Sony has emulated the system before so they have a definite idea on how their hardware works. Their PS2 Classics emulator is actually pretty accurate even if it isn't running the games bought from the store. I'd rather it be handled like the Xbox One BC than adding trophies. If Microsoft can let people play their games from one generation ago, I think Sony can let people play their two generation old games just fine even if it didn't have gimmicks like the trophies.
Well here's the Sony trailer..
I can understand why it costs, considering they've added upscaling and trophies to the games. Having said that, I don't really care about either of those. I mean it's neat having it be upscaled properly, but it's still just a PS2 game. It would be super cool of them to build a robust emulator and let players just use one of the probably billion+ PS2 game discs that there are in the world.
I mean I'd happily buy War of the Monsters again, but I'd still rather just be able to pop in my old disc
I imagine Sony could make it like Microsoft has, even if it's two generations ago (but with how every iso has its own recognizable factors, i'm sure they could make the PS4 recognize games they've made available). But instead they try to exploit us for cash again because "hey we're winning in sales against xbox so we can do whatever we want." There's a reason why despite the success of the PS4, the rest of SONY has been having severe financial issues over the past year or so, and why the Vita and PSTV were a flop, at least in the west; with this generation, they flipped into a completely incompetent business direction that is extraordinarily counter-intuitive to profits and anti-consumer. Then again, they were starting bits of that during the PS3 era too.
Gee, a company trying to make profits? Do you guys think they should just give it to you for goodwill?
Its a competitive market. Honestly, imagine having to have 3 playstations set up to have instant access to your playstation collection.

Whether that's worth the 10-15 bucks they charge for it is all up to the individual, I guess.

The PS3 could read CD-Roms, and they still sold it for 10 dollars in the online store.
I am not expecting it to be any different then the PS1 game reverse compatibility. The PS3 could read CD-Roms, and they still sold it for 10 dollars in the online store.
Every ps3 model could still play ps1 cd-roms though.
you see that's a bunch of lost sales of ps4 there there's still no games for ps4 or xbone, so i am questioning how do they even have any sales
I am not expecting it to be any different then the PS1 game reverse compatibility. The PS3 could read CD-Roms, and they still sold it for 10 dollars in the online store.
Except I can play all of my PS1 discs on PS3, so buying the games on PSN was optional like buying a PS3 game digitally over getting a physical copy. There are exceptions (the Japanese-only games and Vib-Ribbon for North America) but for the most part I can play physical copies just fine.
Every ps3 model could still play ps1 cd-roms though.
Oh wow, i thought they got rid of this together with the ps2 reverse compatibility on the newer models. My bad.
Gee, a company trying to make profits? Do you guys think they should just give it to you for goodwill?
Short answer, yes, long answer, it's a convenience and a selling point for their consoles, not having backwards compatibility creates a pain in the ass when you want to play old games. It's completely ridiculous to try and charge me for what at this point should be an expectation, for a game I already own, that's more expensive than just getting a physical copy anyway.
I can at least appreciate this in case a PS2 game I never got to play but wanted to got put in the line-up. My PS2 is dead.
