Glad he called out GameFAQs. I left that goddamn cesspool half a year ago and I've only been happier for it. They're even worse than what I've seen of 4chan.
Twice even
Anyone notice how both of these games (FF15 and NMS from last week's episode) have been pushed insanely hard by Sony as major PS4 titles compared to even their own developers? I didn't even know NMS wasn't exclusive until a week or so ago. Sony's marketing department has been overpromising on other people's games to whip people up into a frenzy of hype to sell systems and then when the game doesn't live up to it, they let the devs deal with the backlash while Sony gets off scot-free with more PS4 sales on their ledger. Like - Hello Games is just an indie studio who never expected their game to become so high-profile, but Sony hyped it as this huge $60 AAA title that was "(console-)EXCLUSIVE TO PS4!" and when the game got delayed and then ended up being... kinda empty, Hello had this huge mess of angry players to mop up. I really believe that this marketing is why said fanbases have been stirred into such an irrational mob lately. Like Jim said, it's this hype culture.
Expecting something like Half Life 1 out of every single game is silly and irrational. There is nothing wrong at all with a game being well executed as opposed to ground breaking. Doom reboot and Wolfenstein TNO may not be ground breaking but god damn they bought back their franchises to relevance in spectacular style.
The vocal minority are delusional, what's new?
