I don't think its fair to link the downfall of Gawker to Donald Trump's feud against the media.
are they going to mention the part where gawker disregarded a court order over a sex tape
are they going to mention the part where gawker disregarded a court order over a nude tape
I have a feeling this documentary is going to leave a lot of things out.
This is pretty much damage control. I'm surprised Netflix is even hosting this, it's full of misinformation.

And said they'd publish a sex tape of a child.
So they're admitting that they stole and illegally published Hogan's sex tape as well as published that shitty article about Thiel's sexual orientation.
And we're still supposed to feel bad for Gawker and think of Hogan/Thiel as the bad guys here?
Guys poor gawker :(((( publishing a sex tape and ignoring court orders :(((((((((((( they dindu nuffin
the fuck is this? lmao

Nick Denton looks like a POS. He even sports a shit-eating grin in the trailer as he's going down the steps.
Netflix puts up anything these days doesn't it?

Netflix removed the ability to see the star ratings an replaced it with a box on everything that says "99% match for you." I feel like that speaks for the quality of content on netflix recently.

I don't think it's linking them, rather just putting it and the whole anti-press rhetoric in the same class. Which itself is still pretty dishonest of them, as it's pretty unfair to the latter, but it might be salvageable if it doesn't try to gloss over Gawker being shits.
Between all this shitty content and Netflix's stance on net neutrality, it really makes me wish more and more people would unsubscribe from them.

I just wish this could inform people of Gawker's shitty shady business without covering it up with a big blanket stitched with "Fuck Trump." Trump, despite his questionable and awful presidency, had little to nothing to do with nearly all of what the trailer's demonstrating.
I wonder how many people use the racism card against hogan to justify gawker
Good old gawker always fighting for the people! We the people have the god given right to have tabloids post videos of us having sex online and ignoring court orders!

The star system wasnt an agrigated rating system across all users. It looked at what you had rated things in the past, and what types of media you tend to watch, then comes up with a guess rating of what you would think of it.
It works the same way as the current system, the current system just doesn't lie to you.
given the short amount of time this trailer focused on gawker v hogan this movie might not really be about that and is just using it as an example of an event that's recent and a lot of people are familiar with to introduce the topic of the movie
and tbh i never knew about this peter thiel thing and it definitely makes the whole event a little more interesting if theres multiple interests at play here
i definitely dont like gawker but i don't want to judge the movie too much on only the trailer

whats wrong with their stance on nn? everything i'm reading about netflix says they're pro net neutrality?
and on average most of netflix's content is still quite a bit better most of their competitors

Netflix surprising said "Net Neutrality wasn't their primary battle" in May, but it appears they changed their again and as of 9 hours ago, are fighting for Net Neutrality.

Damage control to the max
The Hanz Zimmerman intense music made me giggle. Is this really a documentary people asked for? Is there really people outside of Beverly Hills who take Gawker seriously as a journalism company? It's a pretty open and shut case, so I don't really understand what the conspiracy would be. It's like they're just reaching for angles to throw into their documentary for sensationalism.
If you call your documentary "Trials of the Free Press" then don't make it about how journalists should have the rights to publish a sex tape of a former professional wrestler but maybe anything else.
Are they gonna mention the part where Gawker ferociously condemned the people leaking and circulating that massive batch of celebrity nudes while at the same time defending their decision to leak and circulate a celebrity sex tape??
If you are against Hulk Hogan, you are against America.
I hope this is more about Peter Thiel, his obsession with young blood, being off the record, destroying democracy, reversing womans suffrage, and his personal grudge against Gawker.
He's got Trump in his pocket, was one of his most significant backers during his run, and he's still benefitting from decisions Trump is making.
Gawker needed to die, but it was honestly a pretty fucking devious thing that happened.

From what I've read, the argument tends to be about Peter Thiel being an asshole. But I think it's pretty clear that a large company shouldn't be able to strong-arm an individual who was clearly wronged. I get that it's an ambivalent situation with Peter Thiel financing his revenge; but the end result was still that a wronged individual had the funds to have the legal case that he clearly deserved.
People tend to make it look like Peter Thiel was able to destroy Gawker with money, but he would never have been able to do it if Gawker didn't leak the tape, decline to follow a court order to take it down, and state that they would leak child sex tapes if they got the chance.

Hell, Thiel probably wouldn't have even been interested if Gawker didn't out him in the first place.
I'm very interested in knowing who's bankrolling this garbage. Like really, are you really going to make the wild claims that gawker is some sort of bastion of american freedoms?

Motherfuckers outed Thiel and yet you should focus on how much of an asshole he is? Bankrolling someone to make Gawker pay for their misdeeds was a fight he was entitled to.
is netflix planning on buying out gawker or something?
