Read the behind-the-scenes. Apparently the movement's based off of some viral run where the guy aimed to get as much as possible(Every cannonball, enemy, etc) before the screen moved on. Kinda pointless imo but it's still a neat concept.

but this video isnt too great. its a cool idea but thats all it is.
I thought this video was neat, especially since it's of SMB3 and not SMB1 for once (and I coincidentally just played through SMB3 on my NES, weird). It's still kinda dorky, though. I don't find applying ~realistic style~ to Mario very creative or funny or even that interesting. Same way I don't find applying real-world logic to video game scenarios/glitches. It's just not funny.

Actually, gameplay-wise, not only does it get mad points but it also farms 1-Ups. They even put the 1-Up sound in the video, which I thought was a nice touch.
It's pretty average cgi
I can't complain, I couldn't even dream of animating something of that quality.
Bowser was way harder than that in SMB3.
The video wasn't that great, but I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes-video immensely:

I don't get why people get worked up over this - I don't even look at freddiew videos in general, but I found it decent enough, and he had nothing to do with the production of it. It was just two dudes doing the animating (watch the "behind the scenes"), and even though some of you say it looks cheap, there's loads of people on Youtube that do a lot worse. Chillout.
