A lot of the deep web is completely harmless. Like he said, it's just anything that can't be indexed: things like dynamically generated content, paid content and private information.

If you have decent privacy settings on facebook, use dropbox, or have any kind of private account you can probably scare all your friends by telling them that you spend a lot of your time on the deep web.

The deep web is, as said, just anything that hasn't been indexed yet. The dark web (or dark net) on the other hand, contains things like tor-only services and domains and services that you need special software to access, which could include shady stuff.
