Never mind infantry training, if there's one thing the Ukrainian army needs is that we should send them some C-RAMs or at least something that can deal with the enemy artillery fire.
I think it's pretty impressive that the civil war has been mostly contained to Eastern Ukrainian. Honestly if the Russians weren't driving the tanks,APCs,AAs, and raiding Ukrainian positions then this conflict would've long been over, but no Russia just HAS to save all these "Russian minorities" and take land that isn't theirs.

Personally I would not mind to see US training, weapons, vehicles, and full on support against the Pro-Russian separatists. More than likely if the United States started to run sorties or provided armored support to the Ukrainian Army, we'd see Russia back off from giving aid to the separatists.
Before we support the Ukrainians, tell them to clean out the fucking fascists in their government and army and to stop shelling civilians first.

That's something that can almost never be avoided, case in point in Iraq and Syria where the US honestly takes the the biggest steps from causing civilian causalities such as bombing in Fallujah,Ramadi, or Raqqa. Where they wait for hours if not several days for the oppertunity where the main causality will be ISIS and not civies. The thing is ISIS knows this so they do their best to fill their military areas with people or set up around civilians in order to force the US to not bomb.
You can see that in Ukraine where you have Novo-Russian insurgents occupying close to civilian held areas and when the military begins sending rounds down range to strike the enemy it's next to unavoidable. Most those people don't move or aren't allowed to move so they can use them as shields.
