Great video, and many of his 'negative' things are pretty reasonable. To me, Resident Evil 2 is a perfect game. The environments are all incredibly memorable, the characters were a huge improvement over RE1 I felt(the RE1 characters of course got better over time), the music is unbelievable, the overall gameplay is an improvement, and the sense of momentum the game gives you is borderline addicting. RE3 was an even bigger improvement over RE2 in many ways, but was marred by a totally neutered storyline, that feels way too short. Another perfect game from Capcom is Dino Crisis 2, for many of the same reasons I mentioned for RE2.
RE2 is the game which single-handedly got me into the zombie apocalypse fad. I never played it since I've never owned a PS1 and the only two Resident Evil games I have are 4 which I adore and RE Outbreak File #2 which was too complicated for my 11 year old mind. Now my PS2 doesn't even work that well and I can't go back to play Outbreak 2, but holy hell did the game look so good
The video pretty much hit every nail on the head for me. I wore out my discs I played it so damn much. Despite the small gameplay and story flaws its still a phenomenal game and a classic example of how to do a sequel. I'm still vibrating at the thought that we're getting an actual modern remake further down the road. Looking back, I'm surprised Nemesis didn't take a similar route doing a "Jill A, Carlos B" mission structure like 2 did, even though it would have obviously resulted in longer dev time.
While a lot of people like to blame RE4 for the series becomming more action oriented the series has pretty much been growing more action heavy since RE2 with the REmake and Zero going back to the more slow and spooky survival style of the original game. Only reason the let Nemesis have the 3 in the title was due to the larger install base on the playstation, even the story of later games rely heavier on the events of Code Veronica than Nemesis.

People have said for a long time that if you make horror sequels, it's hard to be scared if you understand more about what you're supposed to be scared of, and Resident Evil 2 understood that right out of the front gate by amping things up. Each game just got more action-packed until they had to dial it way back because it had become a Michael Bay "horror" popcorn entertainment sort of thing.
I unfortunately didn't get into RE until RE4 had come out. Youtube was just coming into its own and I saw some stupid video done in RE4 that got me interested. Bought RE4, hands down one of my favorite games of all time. I eventually went back and played the rest of the series. My dad happened to own both RE2 and RE3 so I got to play both of them. Didn't play RE1 until the REmake was released for PS3 and the like. Gotta say, I love the shit out of RE2 and 3. Almost as much as I love RE4. God, I really hope REmake 2 is of equal or greater quality than the first remake.
I don't understand how RE2 is supposed to be "more forgiving" than the first when he then goes on to describe how it's immensely more combat-heavy and harder because it throws twice as many enemies at you.

The inclusion of infinite blue herbs via blue herb planters in poison heavy areas(though you use them directly from the planter rather than add them to your inventory) helps as well.

From the soundtrack, to the desolate dim hallways of the police station that are either ruined or perfectly fine but still carry a dark feeling to them, to every single sound you hear. Your footsteps, which sometimes echo around the room, the shambling and moaning of reanimated corpses, the sound of a door opening... Its perfect.
You just press the aim button and shoot, aint that hard.
With straight up battles and hordes of enemies, maybe. But sometimes you want to save ammo so you aim high and wait for a zombie to come as close as possible in hopes of a headshot. Other times you may be dealing with foes that move fast or tank the damage and keep closing the distance undauntingly, forcing you to have to keep readjusting position to find optimal methods of baiting and countering them. And that's if you've got the supplies; sometimes it's better to just go around foes to preserve what you need. The core controls are simple and clunky, but there's a lot more to classic RE combat than just the controls. The problem lies in just making a gauntlet of forced battles for the end game that heavily contrasts against what led up to that point.
You just press the aim button and shoot, aint that hard.
You're forgetting positioning. First you have to locate your character on the screen, which is pretty difficult when changing camera angles keeps moving you to a different position, then figure out which way they're facing, then adjust that so they're hopefully pointing at the enemy, then you can hold the aim button and start shooting.
