I remember it as Berenstein as well, what the fuck, this is some SCP shit
I spell it Berenstain bears, have since I was a kid.
I spell it Berenstain bears, have since I was a kid.
Fuck you
I always thought it was Berenberg
Berenstæin
I always called them the Barenstain Bears. A friend had told me about this stain/stein thing a while ago and I had no idea what she was talking about. I'd never heard of anyone calling them Barenstein Bears.
This actually got me spooked.
more like barenmeme bears amiright
it's been an 'e' my entire life
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY BRAIN WHAT DID YOU DO
Either parallel universes are real or the illuminati shadow government was really bored one day.
It's probably the la-li-lu-le-lo. this was a test run to see if they really could make people doubt their memories and to control their pasts

"Hey guys! What if.. what if we changed the e in Berenstein to an a..."
"You absolute madman, Lucius... Let's fucking do it."
Oh God what the FUCK
Did some Googling and there are a surprising number of websites and forums dedicated to this. I've got to go through my library at home and find my old books!
This is a conflict I need but don't want in my life, and at the same time it is a conflict I want but don't need in my life.

"So all we have to do it make two versions of this show with a single vowel change broadcast in separate parts of the country, and we'll fuck with conspiracy theorists for decades? Ohoho someone's getting a promotion after this one takes off."
I honestly just think it's because stein is way more common in a name so people just remembered it like that
I remember it as stain since I had to help an Asian kid read it in class and he pronounced the shit out of that A for some reason
I'm with the CIA and I want the moderation team of this forum to close this thread
I had to go and check my own copy from like 1990, and sure enough it says 'Berenstain Bears' on the cover. I lived my whole life thinking it was berenstein bears. My life is a lie.
I know I have originals from the early 1990s somewhere. I need to find them because I definitely remember it as Berenstein!
I spell it Berenstain bears, have since I was a kid.
This is because you were born after 1999.
All us older people remember it stein

Should go here too.
It's just a misconception because people don't remember things correctly. So when someone says "wasn't it Berenstein with an e?" people think "oh that sounds about right" and agree with it, so they have that recent thought in their heads.
Everybody is forgetting something crucial. Even in the cartoon it is pronounced berenstein, not berenstain.
edit
Okay I just looked it up, it's fucking berenstain on the cartoon too. Do we have a glitch in the matrix? Did the machines change something? I don't understand.

I reckon that if you weren't told that some people remember it as Berenstein instead of Berenstain, you probably wouldn't notice.
We need to start building a database to figure this out. We need everybody across the Internet to answer a questionairre about how they remember it and what region of the world they grew up in. I'm sure there's something in the data that could be found but we just need to build it up first.
I fucking remember it as berenstein and I was just in elementary school and didn't even know stein was something used in names.
Someone should map out Stein vs Stain (the wrong one) and see if it corresponds at all to region.

I agree. It's also completely and totally bizarre that they don't even show up in any publisher's catalogue back in the 90's. Why? How was anybody ever supposed to get the books then? Why were they allover the place at my school and always in book fairs? Where did they come from if they weren't even ON a publisher's catalogue back then? Not even at libraries!
This is seriously fucked up.

More importantly why would there be continuous misspellings of the show on TV guides? I recall seeing it not only printed on guides as berenstein but also showing up on the digital TV guide as berenstein as well. I'm not remembering this wrong. I remember lots of things and I'm pretty reliable with my memory. It was berenstein.
Oh my god this is legitimately fucking with my head right now.
[editline]24th May 2016[/editline]
FUCK GUYS, I JUST REMEMBERED THAT I HAD A HUGE FUCKING TOTE FULL OF BERENSTEIN BEARS BOOKS FROM THE 90'S BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT I DID WITH IT WHEN I MOVED
MAYBE I DONATED THEM BECAUSE IM A FUCKING IDIOT, I COULD HAVE GIVEN US ANSWERS. I COULD HAVE CLOSED THIS CASE ONCE AND FOR ALL. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.
[editline]24th May 2016[/editline]
...Did I even get the books? Was the huge tote I had of them over the years from collecting them even real? Did the tote even exist? Did I even get them from all those book fairs? What's even real anymore?
