Man, Starcraft has aged surprisingly well considering its almost 20 years old

Understandable, given that it's prerendered sprites gone through the pixelizer :v:

I don't like some of those portraits, but ingame models look great for the most part.
One of the only things I've ever pre-ordered.
They've been patching in the technical side of things such as making it work without much hassle on modern OSes into the standard we already own. So it's not like there's a risk of this being an unfinished broken mess.
Idk if I'll ever be happy with the remastered sprites, but they did a pretty fucking good job considering.
I think I'll still mostly play with classic sprites on, a few things just irk me, like goliaths looking way too detailed and zerg in general looking idk, too clean?
[editline]10th August 2017[/editline]
Which is not to say the sprites aren't incredible.
I don't think any hi-res can do justice to what I have in my head.
I think it looks sexy
this is exactly how you do a remaster. other than some iffy portraits, this is just like how an HD starcraft should look. kudos to blizzard.
Excited, now i can lose to cheese strats in HD

All one really needs is hours of UMS
But does Raynor still have his monobrow
I hope they remaster the cinematics too.
I like how the remastered version still has that "old" look going on.

Blizzard knows how to give their 2d games ageless art styles.

Diablo 2 still looks good to this day. Of course it looks aged, but its that kind of good age.
yeah, the game's cool and all, but did you all know you can upgrade your hardware at one.de???
I hope they remaster the cinematics too.
They are. I don't know how much though; it could be slightly re-rendering what already exists.
They're also remastering all of the audio as well as redoing the story expositions. Pretty happy to play through the campaign again.
I wonder if the multiplayer will be very active or if the whole competitive scene will remain with the SC3.

That game needs a remaster as well.
But does Raynor still have his monobrow
No. In fact, they did worse.

Those hack frauds gave him hair!
Some of the character portraits have less frames of animation than the originals!
The Zerg one was the worst. In the original its eyes blinked, head moved, stuck its tongue out. The new one? It just obviously loops in a near static pose.
No. In fact, they did worse.

Honestly, he looks nothing like Raynor. I loved his balding face with that monobrow.
god SC1's art style still kicks ass. blizzard haven't been able to rid themselves of the cartoonyness of their 3d games ever since WC3
even the terrans felt kind of alien with their heavy use of exposed industrial steel and the dark lighting. really gave a great unsettling mood to the original game that is missing the in sequel

the pixelation of the old sprites almost acts like a censor for the zerg, so our minds fill in how disgusting we expect them to be

Looks like young version of his SC2 look which I don't get why you would expect anything different

The original StarCraft was made free when the remaster was announced, and both players of the original and the remaster can play with/against each other. Not sure how the competitive scene will be, but releasing the original version for free where everyone can play sounds like a good way to ensure an active community for the most part.

The competitive scene for sc1 remains active to this day
GOD I FUCKING HATE BLIZZARD like they have this lore and artstyle of redneck inbred mutated space convicts, you have a bald guy with a monobrow as the fucking MAIN PROTAGONIST and then they just fucking jizz all over it with SC2 and remaster for fucking chiseled features and space warcraft. SC1 had the greatest atmosphere of any game I have ever played, and fucking Blizzard wanted supermodel characters, space elves, space bugs, and a Terran campaign that resembles the aesthetic of brokeback mountain more than starcraft.

he looks like commander shepard
If I were to start playing Starcraft for the first time today, would the remaster be worth it to buy?
If I were to start playing Starcraft for the first time today, would the remaster be worth it to buy?
The original is free and they are pretty much identical except for graphics.
They even have cross-version multiplayer IIRC
They are. I don't know how much though; it could be slightly re-rendering what already exists.
Honestly that's all I would want. The cinematics don't need to be redone at all, widescreen re-render for clarity and perfection!
