I thought the premise and setting of the game was real interesting when it was announced so it really dissapointed me this is how it turned up.
alright that mirror bug at 2:24 was pretty cool.
Story wise Mafia 3 was pretty good, it's just a shame that's pretty much all it had going for it
And as always, Rushnerd couldn't get pass from making another Crazy Taxi scene. Not that I don't approve [sp]YA YA YA YA YA[/sp]

It's repetitive at times, but the characters, voice acting, story, and combat is all pretty great. The biggest problem with the game is definitely repetition, but it always pays off once you get to the big missions, which are all fantastic.

But then I had to revisit different locations over and over and over again, shoot the same masses of enemies without any cutscene or story context. In between I got stuck in a fence, I climbed over a fence and was stuck outside of the playable area, I encountered bloom that was so bright, it made the sun jealous, enemies as dumb as roomba cleaners, regular vehicles driving into each other until they went up in flames, enemies taking cover behind NOTHING, invisible fire that emmits light, floating props, decals on cars with FULLBRIGHT, flickering ambient occlusion, regular traffic going in circles at lightspeed (imagine driving backwards in Big Rigs) Just to unlock a new mission which is given by one NPC in a garage with a one-liner without a cutscene or anyhting...
Story wise Mafia 3 was pretty good, it's just a shame that's pretty much all it had going for it
It was ok. But as a Mafia fan from the first one i was really dissapointed with it. I mean it's all but a Mafia game (you can slap any name on it, it still works. Mafia "III" is just a marketing tactic). What i wanted is a game about smokings, betrayals, one part of the mafia refusing to touch drugs, conflicts between families ; pretty much everything from The Godfather II & III. The game missions & objectives were also very repetitive, except if you throw a few extra bucks for the DLCs. I blame 2K for this, just look at what we missed: I still hate 2K for this, we could have had a very awesome Mafia II game if they had listened 2K Czech. If Mafia III was your first Mafia game, i suggest you to play the previous games (or only the first one if you don't have time)

Mafia 2 is great though, Mafia 3 is pretty neat too but yeah its more of a general revenge story than a mafia story.
the bucatini and gta vice city mission accomplished track was funny as fuck
I suggest you play only the second one because Mafia 1 is pretty much a dumpster fire on wheels both gameplay and story wise.
Don't forget that Mafia I is from 2002. Storywise the game was absolutely brillant in every aspect : the story, the characters, the places... it was mindblowing for a 2002 game.
If I thought Mafia 2 was a tedious game with a cliche story, I can safely assume that I wouldn't like this game right?

Although when i revisited the game i found many scenes to be awkward and the characters to be emotionless and cold. Mafia 2 on the other hand continues to be great in both story, characters and settings. In my opinion it even has one of the most atmospheric environment in video game history. The billboards, the radio songs/commercials, the cars etc were all on point.
I'd love a Mafia 1 esque game on a modern engine. The story was amazing, and from a gameplay and especially technical standpoint it was absolutely ground breaking*. Open world games that feel that alive and immersive are still pretty hard to come by, and this is a 15 year old title we're talking about here *At least the initial 2002 PC version was, the console versions released in 2004 were a bit watered down IIRC (or perhaps that was only the PS2 version?) Mafia had the potential to be an amazing series but they kept cutting corners every way you look. Not only could it be an amazing crime drama series, exploring topics and locations never before seen, but it could have a Godfather esque story with tons of drama and character. But nope. While they always nail interesting characters they always fail to go above and beyond what is expected, and only go for the bare minimum of content.
