K, just waiting on Sega to announce a western release and PC version. Any decade now Sega.
I mean, I'll have to buy it in the hopes they'll eventually come back to the series roots, but I'm still really unhappy with the direction sega has gone with it.
Looks awful in my opinion
It's such a shame how this series turned out.
Looks like a typical JRPG to me.
What the fuck does this have in common with Valkyria Chronicles apart from the word "Valkyria" and glowing blue auras?
I'm not gonna straight up dismiss though, since apparently the gameplay was completely overhauled after basically everyone shat on the demo
To be fair about that demo...
It was a pre-alpha. Let's just say there's a reason pre-alphas never have public playable demos and are always shown off via heavily scripted gameplay if any gameplay is shown.
The reaction to Azure Revolution only reinforces those reasons.

It gets a lot of sales, SEGA might think the series needs to be JRPG. It gets bad sales they might axe the series.

Pre Alpha is stretching it given the fact that it came out less than a year before the launch.

Game wasn't feature-complete yet. They said so much around that time.
By any western game development standard, that's pre-alpha stage.
[editline]15th September 2016[/editline]
Gotta have faith people, it's the same dev team that made the original games who all moved over to Media.Vision to make VC3 after WOW Entertainment got shuttered because VC1 flopped - And Media.Vision has a track record for great games.
Wild Arms anyone? Anyone remember that? Hell, Chaos Rings was pretty OG I heard.

I'd say Alpha at best but that's semantics I suppose.
Don't get me wrong, I want this to be good. But everything I've seen from this game looks nothing like the originals (You could argue the other sequels didn't too but at least they kept the general theme intact) and looks like a bog standard JRPG with the Valkyria name slapped onto it.

Except the demo was not glitchy or buggy or messy in the usual sense of these things, and instead just flatout had plain terrible gameplay. As in generic clunky hack and slash melee combat up close, and spamming burst fires in the laziest way possible at range. It was a mess of an attempt at an action RPG that tried to vaguely pretend it was even remotely similar to Valkyria Chronicles.
There's a reason why, in response to fan reception upon everyone seeing the demo, the devs stepped back and said "okay, we'll retool the game to be more strategy-like for you all." You don't throw your game design aside unless it was either hardly built up yet like you imply, or you realize just how badly you dropped the ball and know that keeping it that way would be nothing but a detriment to the product.
If it weren't for the video showing "Selvaria but with a scythe" right off, I wouldn't be able to tell this was supposed to be a Valkyria game. It really does just look like a random JRPG.
I struggle to find here anything related to Varkyria Chronicles.
Looks more like a generic jrpg.
tiddies
I only played the first game, but the game was cool up until the white haired chick showed up with her magic bullshit. The game very quickly went downhill after that.
ITT: People who didn't play VC3.
Dunno about you guys, but the tone and aesthetic is pretty clearly borrowed from VC3. My main concern here is that the plot risks being a retread of VC3.
[editline]15th September 2016[/editline]
To be clearer, pretty much every character that's been shown have designs that are pretty much just HD renditions of VC3 characters (And one guy who looks like Avan) with slight palette changes - Likewise Amleth's sword was a weapon in VC3 - And then lastly, the main crew Amleth is associated with are basically mirror images of Isler and his entourage of conspirators in motivations and backgrounds, but this time from a protagonist's perspective.
i've never played valkyria chronicles i was under the impression it was basically a world war 1 simulator with a minimal amount of magical bullshit

It would have been a better game if that's what it was.
[QUOTE=certified;51055964]ITT: People who didn't play VC3.[/QUOTE]
You can blame Sega for that.
[QUOTE=RichyZ;51056296]ww2 with magic was pretty much the summary of it
all the way down to blaming [del]jews[/del]darcsens for all the problems in the world and killing them en masse[/QUOTE]
It didn't really have magic, at least the first one didn't. The magic bullshit had clear rules and limitations and was more like Element Zero from Mass Effect than magic from every JRPG ever.

Huh, I played VC3 but didn't pick up on that, kinda neat.
Still massively upset at the genre shift, both thematically and gameplay.

First off, this wasn't all of the complaints, some people weren't just generalizing the art design.
Second, (most) of the characters in VC3 still adhered to some semblance of military protocol, and looked like a fantasy war ragtag group that did as they pleased.

Take away the dog tags and this yellow-eyed motherfucker looks like a generic edgy JRPG protagonist, right down to excessive belts.

And these characters look more like vaguely military-themed JRPG party members.
And don't even get me started on this travesty.

They don't even remotely look similar beyond a few loose aesthetic values.
God why.
Why God why.
Why did it have to be this series?
VC is dead, there's no coming back from this. Sega made something no one wanted and they're going to shelve the entire franchise because this stupid almost entirely unrelated product didn't sell.

What the hell? Why is there a wizard with a staff and a bunch of sword users in this? Isn't Valkyria Chronicles about good old wars with guns and tanks, not swords and staffs?
If you've been paying attention to the news around this game, the main characters (Amleth, the soldier, Kahlenberg, a minister of parliament, Basili (Vasili?), the stock-broker, Eriksen, the journalist, and Szand, the spy) shown in the trailers are a bunch of scoundrels using the war to make their current government look weak in order to gain support a coup they are plotting.
I really don't see what's "generic" here. I've not exactly seen many JRPGs with villian-protaganists who are greedy assholes. Also nevermind that most JRPG protaganists don't pistol-whip and hold at gunpoint an unarmed man who surrendered. Hell, you got to remember, this is the same series where a protagonist got [highlight][TRIGGERED][/highlight] by someone being knocked out with a rifle-butt while they still posed a threat.

This isn't actually a Chronicles game.
It's a different continuity that is a lot more liberal with its fantasy elements, made by the people behind the (mediocre and often ignored) action titles in SEGA's Shining franchise from PS2 and beyond. Valkyria is just a property name they attached to the product for loose theming and to make it sell.

I honestly liked the more cleaner art style the first game has, I think Valkyria Chronicles is a very pretty game.

Uh, what?
Kurt looks like a soldier. Someone in a regular military fighting a war.

Sure, they opened up the character designs in VC3, but there was still a common visual thread running through most of the characters.
You know who the MC of this game reminds me of?

They went full retard on the setting too. Hehe the wheel was never invented guess that means we have to use walkers now :^)
Mechs don't make the game more exciting, they make it more bland. Mechs are the status quo in these kinds of games, having authentic-looking original vehicle designs was cool and interesting.

Wikipedia isn't the best source on my part, but it seems none of the directors or producers are the same.
There may be a number of individuals passed on through the series' development line but they're not the ones in charge of this project.
