that was in nyc wasn't it? nyc is pretty uniquely terrible pedestrian wise. a lot of america is pretty bad though. all the video proves is that nyc sucks. ya don't see that shit everywhere. (i did experience it first hand in america though. and nowhere else)

You do see that shit everywhere, though the frequency definitely depends on where you live.
I don't have a single girl friend who hasn't been catcalled.

being cat called is just someone being an aggressive asshole, it happens all the time to everyone (symptoms of their aggression)

Yeah I don't know about the rest of the world but it seems with any densely populated city in America you can't walk around without getting cat-called a few times. I can speak from first-hand experience for Detroit

The funny thing was how many guys just thought "Oh, how kind of them to say hello!" or "Boys will be boys!"

I think you have the wrong definition of catcalling

and it's never happened to me...

It happens to guys sometimes. I got catcalled twice in the same week.

yes because you are american
i am not american and i live in australia and in all my time with lady friends they have never been catcalled
however when i was in america with one of them she got at least 10 a day (we started counting)
american culture just breeds a lot of extroverts

So what's the point in talking about how it is in Australia if it's not a problem there?
10 out of 10 would bang :v:

wow that's odd, because my lady friends get catcalled all the time
predominantly construction workers
seriously Rusty, pull that blind prejudice out of your ass. It happens here too.

i experienced more harassment in 2 hours in berlin than i have in weeks worth of experience in nyc and boston
shit's everywhere, not just nyc.
it still painted a pretty good picture of how douchy a lot of guys are
I respectfully disagree. If it takes you 10 hours of walking around NYC to get (not even) two minutes of interaction (harassment if you will) from strangers then you are taking a small issue and trying to make it seem like its a bigger one.
If they had done 10 hours of walking around in a midwest suburb versus an east coast metropolis, I reckon you'd see a surprising lack of results. Of course when you walk around the most populous city in the US (~8.4M people) you're going to run into a culturally diverse sets of people from all walks of life; some of which have bad intentions.

Nice, way to generalize a whole city/country based on what a few people say to her. A+
Just going to throw this out there. Most of the guys probably saw a girl walking with someone in front of her recording and decided "Hey, let's get in on whatever she's recording."

Making any judgement or assuming any prejudice/stereotype based off nationality is ignorant but it's not wrong to say America has an unnaturally high rate of assholes that are vocal and combine that with the concept of the vocal minority being the only one heard... Well, yeah. Also, I don't think Rusty is only generalizing us off of those few people, it might have something to do with a forum he browses which's majority is American.

Yes, the chance of it is very minuscule when minimized to an individual, but the point of it was to show how ONE person is affected. Times that by all the women in NYC. Just because the individual isn't affected at a rate in which you feel is an "issue" doesn't stop it from being one. And you're acting like the specific time amount is the problem, it's the actual event happening, not the time it took to do it... There's a lot of sexism in America, trying to waive it off with reasoning such as, "it doesn't happen THAT often", is ignorance at best. It's not as oppressive as radicals insist it is but it's not as free like it should be. That said, I don't believe the video accomplished really anything if it's obvious she was making a video while walking down New York. There's always the one in the bunch that has to make fart noises to entertain the class. It's so drilled in our heads on how easy it is to become famous also, make a funny moment happen in front of the camera, bam, instant celebrity.

Good thing you only have to deal with a shitty Prime Minister, a shitty Minister of Environment, strong racism, spiders the size of your fist, and oh...

Camera is supposed to be hidden
Camera is supposed to be hidden
But how? It's not like they stuck it behind a garbage can. Someone is wearing a camera that keeps perfect centered focus on the subject with minimal shakeycam. It's not like they stuck a Gopro to the back of their head and put a baseball cap on backwards.
Christ this made me laugh hard, especially the ending.
On the topic of catcalls: Catcalling makes you look annoying no matter the gender, especially in NYC where most people are just trying to get somewhere and aren't looking for someone's attention.
It's also possible for men to be on the receiving end:

So is it really an issue of sexism? Or just people not minding the personal space of others.
Not to mention the instances of 'harassment' were few and far between, creating a short video out of supposedly 10 hours of travel. Putting the spotlight on a vocal minority in a city of 8 million is ridiculous. In the time I've spent walking around NYC I've seen nothing but people who are incredibly nice and are more than willing to have a chat!

I never understood approaching someone you like with "You are hot".
Let's say the person responds positively. How are you supposed to continue the dialogue? Or is it like:
- You are hot.
- Let's fuck?
- Sure

I'd just say something like "I know" and keep walking.
Buuuuut unless the person is blind or a fan of Picasso I'll never get the chance.
