True holograms? What a wonderful time to be alive. Can't wait to see how it will improve in the future.
It's cool but ionising stuff uses a lot of energy and sounds moderately dangerous. (I'd imagine those points are very hot, and you wouldn't want to stick your hand in it) Like in the right circumstances it's fine (like they said, in emergencies) but I don't think you'll be seeing these on every street corner. Really cool but probably not the solution we want for a hologram.
I expected the Emergency Medical Hologram, but instead I got a series of ionized air which in turn creates a hologram for use in an emergency, which may or may not be medical. I can live with this.
Every time people think we've finally reached the point where we can't take holograms further, we do so.

I understand plasma emissions... I wanna know how they defined a point in 3d space without a physical reference point. Anyone can ionize air, but defining points at that speed baffles me.

that's pretty goddamn impressive. [editline]4th November 2014[/editline] it's like the first crt screens, they only had room for a couple pixels. given time, like all tech, we'll have our emh's soon enough.
Our motivation for developing this display was that we thought it would be useful in emergencies if text could be displayed in mid air.
"Also, FUCKING HOLOGRAMS." Another thing, I don't know why this distinction isn't ever made, but a hologram is technically a seemingly three dimensional image that appears on a flat surface. A display that has three true physical dimensions is a volumetric display.

we're literally burning air to shit to create flying images, humanity fuck yeah
I can't wait to draw dickbutts with it.
What if a bird flies into it?
What if a bird flies into it?
Free cooked meal.
What if the emergency is a gas leak or involves a gas leak?
