I would love to play this with a killer surround sound system.
Looks pretty acradey and bad. Like they were even too fucking lazy to set up a hangar for the fighters so they just put powerups all over the map. Also judging by this footage and hands-on accounts the actual flying looks horrible to control. Infantry wise, the Rebels and Empire seem to have no actual difference, its just a skin. Also why is EVERYTHING an ability with a cool down? Your detonators? Your sniper rifle? What in the fuck are they doing with this game? This isn't a fucking MOBA, or RTS, or anything tight-knit like that, its a large scale shooter!
And for "Walker Assault" why is the focus on the Y-wings? Why couldn't the objective to have been hold the trench lines against incoming walkers? It really distracts from the theme of the mode.
I'm really glad I have not been getting hyped for this game. I really miss Pandemic though...

They were probably thinking it worked for health years and years ago so why not make everything a cool down?
The heroes don't even look fun to play compared to BF2. Like in BF2 you'd be sprinting across the battlefield at light speeds, jumping 20 feet in the air but here it's just like the same sprint speed maybe slightly faster with a rather short jump.
eh
looks really boring.
What a dissapointment

How do you realistically set up hangers for tie-fighters when the Destroyers are several miles above and away from the battlefield though? I believe in the actual Hoth Echo Base map the snow speeders start in the hanger. For the cooldowns it seems to be more a regeneration thing - your ammo regens once you've used it all up (you see him throw a detonator without a cooldown happening afterwards). The sniper rifle thing seems weird - but sort of interesting to me. Almost like it's this weapon that you can only use every so often before it has to charge up again or whatever, which is something we haven't seen before in an FPS.
This is just one mode we're seeing (and just one class) - I doubt it's all like this.
yeah between this and the survival mode im p. interested
looks like star wars battlefield, which is all i was hoping for
Having played the Closed Alpha I gotta say that I found the game pretty uninteresting.
Gunplay was rather boring, weapon selection was extremely limited, and even though there'll be more guns in the final game, all guns were basically more or less the same with varying fire-rates.
The power-up system was massively unbalanced, with tons of overpowered power-ups spawning in bulk causing one team to very easily prevail over the other very early in the game.
On top of that, flying was extremely difficult, since the controls were janky and your field of view was rather limited (you couldn't rotate the camera to look back or to your sides, since your mouse controlled the movement of the fighter), and it was more or less impossible to fight anything else that other fighters due to the speed, making it useless for air-to-ground combat.
The main gamemode itself was also rather uninteresting, since it was basically a TDM side-scroller with occasional "shoot the thing" events.
What I did find kind of interesting was the coop mode, where you and another player pit up against waves of enemy AI, which even though was rather bland during the alpha, I believe can become very fun to play by incorporating minor story elements and improving on the variety and tactics of the enemies you face.

Just make an airfield or a platform with a bunch of fighters on it.

That's not reassuring. Also I've seen the other videos IGN released and it doesn't look any different. If anything it makes me like the game less. The lack of classes is really hurting it. You're basically all just regular infantrymen with a different explosive, blaster, 1 use cooldown ability, and the option of having a quick jumppack jump every 30 seconds or so. There's no variety or uniqueness that the classes in Battlefront 2 had.
I really miss Pandemic though...
And yet again I am reminded there will never be a Mercenaries 3.
:(
now lets be fair about the weapon selection thing here, there are more weapons and a fully fledged loadout system that isn't really in the game yet, and the blaster pistol in BF 1 and 2 was incredibly versatile as well, while having infinite ammo as i recall
just because it's not 100% like the older games doesn't make it particularly bad, especially because BF1 and 2 had their fair share of flaws
[editline]6th October 2015[/editline]
like yes, just because the heroes -could- fly around the skies of the maps in BF2 because their movement was literally retarded doesn't mean that it's good design, it was goofy and most of the heroes felt identical in their goofiness anyway, aside from a force power or two.
Those fucking snow textures though. They even nailed the small glimmers of the sun beating off water droplets.
I gotta say, despite the movies being bad. Playing the droids in BF1 & 2 offered such a unique experience. I always rocked the Droideka!
I just played the early-access Beta and I'll have to say that what I previously stated about the Alpha still stands more or less.
They have introduced a new control zone like gamemode, which is far more interesting than the TDM side-scroller, but it still lacks gameplay wise, since the only interaction there is other than shooting people is "capturing" a control point and then running around until it fills up a bar (you don't even have to stay close to it).
Gunplay is slightly improved, with weapons feeling a bit more punch-packing, and I do like the introduction of the sniper rifle, but other than that all weapons are still generic and not even remotely interesting.
The spawning system is still a mess, spawning you on the other side of the map, regardless of enemy rotation or where the objective is, resulting in some extremely long distance running which can be very infuriating at some points.
I didn't get to play as a hero since I only managed to get on a game that didn't have the hero cards (too few people playing atm). The matchmaking system is really not good, and that's very obvious even with the small amount of people playing right now (at least it's better than Siege's).
As for the singleplayer / coop mode, nothing significant has changed. They simply added some "collectibles" (which I have no idea as to what purpose they server) and some additional difficulty options (which are not available during the beta).
Overall, I'm not impressed at all.
So the only vehicles in so far are air vehicles? And they don't even spawn on the map? That's definitely going in the wrong direction.

I loved the first mission in Battlefront 1 because it allowed you to play as the crappy regular Battle Droids before they were replaced by the Supers.

well as you can see there are also ATST's for this map, as well as the semi-controllable AT-ATs (though i can see why you wouldn't count that)
on the rebel side they -do- start on the map, but there's no reason for imperial tie fighters to just be shitting around in the snow waiting to be deployed, seeing as they come from star destroyers, so its manifested in the pickups.
That's also discounting the fact that this is one map thats depicting an iconic battlefield in the star wars universe, so of course they're gonna have the iconic vehicles to go with it. I can't believe how quickly people will hop on a game based on very limited gameplay shown, they're clearly tucking some of the good shit under the covers so people dont spoil themselves on everything, because that shit happens every time with a Battlefield title when its beta rolls around.
looks great

Lets be honest, all the gameplay shown up to this point has been about the same, regardless of mode. It looks completely and totally uninspired. You can tell a lot by a couple minutes of game play.
And do you really think they are going purposely put out pretty generic game play just so they don't "spoil" anything? Its basic gameplay not story elements. With all the flack they are already getting with the game does that sound like a good strategy?
all of the flak ive heard from the game is 'its not pandemics game to the tee im upset' instead of any real solid arguments. I'm all for criticizing a game but only when it's valid criticism. I guess it's generic gameplay in the sense that it's literally the battlefield formula applied to star wars but that's by no means a bad thing, and i'll take polished mainstream gold standard gameplay over a sketchy floaty mess any day of the week.

There is maybe one comment in this thread that is nitpicking a minor difference. My view is coming from someone who love's Battlefield 4 and is totally neutral towards this game. I literally couldn't care less about this game, I had no intentions of buying it before the game play came out. So I amlooking at this game with very minimal expectations.
It just seems so uninspired from what could have been done with it. It looks like a lazy Battlefield clone, I don't think that's really what anyone wanted from this game. It's not pandemics game to a tee, but it's also not the same game by a mile, which I think most people would be okay with it there seemed to be any heart in it.

That's because the maps are way smaller this time around.

Make the spawn on the impstardeuce, with transports/fighters/bombers launching from it and bringing you to on map spawn points, probably around the AT-ATs
The graphics are nice, but that's all I can really say is good about it.
Doing the hero clash literally tells you "Spam attack to win battle" in big white font for whatever reason. It feels nowhere near as good as the old battlefront games from what I found in the alpha. It's a shame too, they could have done something great with it. At least it isn't a 1-1 battlefield clone.

I think it's a design choice necessary because the other design choices are so bad.
Basically the game is one giant infantry online FPS.
And since it lacks fast mobile ground vehicles of any sort so far they had to find a way to get people into the fighters without making them run back to base for half an hour.

I'm just glad you can't camp the vehicle power ups, if you grab one you have to use it or it vanishes in 10-15 seconds.
