It was like that for all the prime games. It's why you could kill all the enemies in one room, travel a few rooms, and come back to see that they've respawned. Very cool system.
NFC is fucking awesome. You can order NFC stickers from Amazon for pennies and if you have an Android smartphone, have a lot of fun with them. I have one in my kitchen that when swiped turns on my music player, opens the cookbook site that I use and asks me if I want to start a timer for anything.
(sorry iOS friends, Apple limited the NFC reader on your phone, so it could only be used for payments)
