So I just remembered this old PC game I had when I was little, I remember it being a ton of fun. I poured a lot of hours into the game. So I was wondering if any of you folks might remember it as well. It's an old shooter from 1998 where you run around in giant mech suits and blow shit up. I got the game in a bundle with Septerra Core.
Played the shit out of this game.
I love the overdone particle effects from late 90's games.
I love the overdone particle effects from late 90's games.
They werent overdone, its just that particle effects nowadays are underdone
The old armored core games were the best mecha games I think. Too bad the developers took the series in the wrong direction. Oh I just remembered from software made it.
Holy shit nostalgia! I had a modded version of this on my N-Gage...Yes in school I was "that guy"

Minimum system requirements are a 166 MHz CPU, while the Ngage only has an 104 MHz ARM. Direct X is required which the Symbian OS on the Ngage doesn't have. Also no 3D accelerator. You would have to rewrite the whole game, make less detailed 3D models of the enemies, decrease map geometry and entities, etc... And then you would have an awkward way of controling your character.
I remember this gem. It was particularly awesome at the time. The critical hit system was cool too.
This game was crazy hard because enemies could tear you up almost as fast as you could to them. And explosions were instant-death to pretty much anyone, including you, unless the victim is just on the outer range of one. So naturally they begin having assholes with those weird floating grenade launchers camping around corners later in the game specifically to screw you into a death. But for what it was, it certainly was a quirky anime homage of a shooter. I wonder if Monolith would've ever considered another Shogo installment after the easter eggs to it in the F.E.A.R. series?
I don't understand how this game can possibly be considered underrated because every time it's mentioned everyone here has played and enjoyed it growing up. I guess it's like a cult classic.
This game is so fucking fantastic. It was actually going to have 2 expansions, Shugotenshi and Legacy of The Fallen. LoTF's files actually leaked, I've got the files. There were going to be aliens, a whole bunch of new guns and a few new mechs.
I love this game. I actually like to play through it again from time to time for the nostalgia factor. It's also just a really good game.
Has anyone noticed how the enemies never ever move unless you trigger a scripted sequence? All they do is stand still until they spot you, and then they fire at you. I can't get over this
Has anyone noticed how the enemies never ever move unless you trigger a scripted sequence? All they do is stand still until they spot you, and then they fire at you. I can't get over this
Sometimes they'll run towards you when they spot you, but yeah, the AI in Shogo's dumber than Quake 1 and 2. They pretty much run on either being placed in ambush spots or coming in for scripted sequences, especially in the end game. And they make up for the bad AI by making them really accurate, having bullshit reflexes and being able to Crit you like you can them. And that's not even getting into allied AI, they just sorta either run for scripted points or awkwardly follow you, and blindly fire at enemies whether you're in their way or not. [sp]Which results in quite a bit of death if you're not careful in escorting Kura part way through the game. She'll kill you instantly half the time with a shotgun to your back because you were inbetween her and an enemy.[/sp]
I only first heard of this game like a week or two ago when I came across a whole album of songs mixed from sound bytes in this game.
i played this often when young. really liked this game, i sometimes wish that like shogo mobile armor division needs to come back with better engine and graphics from these days. on another side it worries me....they wont make it like in 1998, it wont be bloody like the old one, same goes to the game: One unit whole blood. loved that one too.
Oh hey I remember this. A long time ago my cousin gave me a big box absolutely crammed with PC games he had laying around, they included this one. It was weird and awesome.

That game is pretty much a perfect modernization of the old Shadow Warrior game.
...got the disk out again... trying to install on Win7 x64
...got the disk out again... trying to install on Win7 x64
It'll install fine, but if you want the music to work, you have to run it in compatibility mode for Windows 95. Sounds weird, but trust me, it works fine.

Or you just play without the original soundtrack, which apparently isn't that big a deal.

I totally forgot about that, though. :v:
Of course. Guess who made this game though? They made other popular games such as BLOOD and BLOOD 2 FEAR FEAR 2 NOLF NOLF2 Condemned 1 Condemned 2 And now, Shadows of Mordor. [editline]28th September 2014[/editline] Also, you should have posted this weeb as fuck intro to the game [sp]Yes this is the first thing you see when you boot up the game[/sp] It's like the entire game was an homage to mecha anime made by Americans. I loved it as a kid. Which is weird, because I don't like anime that much.

They really went all-out to make it "authentically" anime-themed and the intro with the Japanese lyrics and the single english lyric said in a japanese accent, it's really perfect. :v:
Dude fuck yeah, i even made a post about it some weeks ago. Shit was awesome.
