Oh my god, how come I've never heard of this project before? This is something I've always wanted.
that's really nice project...
it would be shame some C&D would kill it

He's been doing it for the last couple years with regular releases/updates, nothing has happened yet.

Lawyers are fickle creatures.
There was a Halo mod (for a Command & Conquer game IIRC) that was trucking on just fine for years, but right as Microsoft announced Halo Wars they sent a C&D to the developers.
The same thing happened with MechWarrior 4's freeware re-release and MechWarrior Living Legends; MW4 died right as MechWarrior Online came out, and MWLL had a three year long development cessation not longer after.

CBS doesn't seem interested in this era anymore. I can't see them doing anything similar to this.
My uncle will love this, gotta send him a link, he's a huge star trek fan
Been a while since I've checked up on this project, the attention to detail is amazing.
It's one of those "labor of love" projects that give you that warm feeling inside.
they havent implemented shuttle bay force fields yet so you can just walk outside

and you can just land shuttlecraft on the hull and walk out
The small shuttle bay kind of has a force field, it doesn’t stop you from walking out of it, but if you disable it, it will cause decompression

IIRC CBS is completely fine with fan projects using Star Trek material, as long it is non-commercial and they don't use it to make a profit, which is what happened with the Axanar fan movie. They managed to collect over a million dollars through a number of kickstarters.
The Axanar lawsuit was settled out of court which included making several changes that were in line with the new Fan Film guidelines http://www.startrek.com/fan-films

And thing with Axanar, is the money they raised wasn't just for the film, they were also funnelling it into their studio which they were going to use to make non-Star Trek films, which was one of the things CBS/Paramount didn't like.

There is a Half-Life 2 reference/Easter egg in this. I'll let you find it, I'll give you a hint, it is on a computer screen.

i know but that Settlement technically killed Axanar as afaik the old script was aiming for 40 to 90 minutes movie
so 15 at best 30 minutes is drastic reduction of what one of most promising indie ST movies could be

the funnelling about the studio was something what was used to shutdown the project
it's unclear if it was done on purpose as some `evil`scheme of the Anaxar production
Axanar's production was shady as fuck

and how you come to that conclusion,
the Prelude to Axanar was actually well done
can't do quality work w/o quality equipment and that cost something
the limits which CBS defined for fan films are so strict
that any past indie ST would simply not pass the rules
(screenplay time, budget wise or more than 2 parts etc.)
if author of Star Trek was alive he would be very disappointed about corporate greed

Prelude was good, what Alec Peters did afterwards wasn't, just read the site I linked.
