The trailers are the only decent thing about this game. It's so mismanaged it's just disappointing. Bad story, and bad gameplay. It doesn't do anything right.
I have to disagree with you 90%
This game survives solely on the IP and has devs with zero passion for it that spend their time on new ways to sell more stuff on the cartel market (real money store).
Honestly the game isnt that bad. It's just never going to be as good as Galaxies
It hasn't had any real MMO content in two years and the single player story is so bad. You had to pay monthly for ~30 mins of "story" content that was just stretched out with poor and repetitive gameplay. Witcher 3 DLC had more content than the whole year's worth of single player content.
Honestly the game isnt that bad. It's just never going to be as good as Galaxies
It's not that good either, considering the property, and what the trailers are supposed to convey. Outside of Imperial Agent there isn't much in the story vein that screams "quality equal to license capability."
Really, now? of all the things I've heard about SW:TOR, the one thing that everybody says is that it has a great story, especially for an MMO.
The original class stories that came out in 2011 are decent for the most part. Anything that came after is just utter cliche dogshit though, espescially the latest KOTFE story line.
That came out in 2011...
I don't see how a game's release date effects anything As someone who didnt play the game back in 2011, and is playing it now, it's alright.
Most of the vanilla stories for the classes and planets are enjoyable, and the first expansion's story was good. But everything beyond that has been a downward spiral. It's a shame, I used to really enjoy this game, but I couldn't get into it after the terrible Shadow of Revan expansion. I liked some of what KOTFE tried to do, but it still just failed to pull me in and was marred by a load of questionable decisions.
I don't see how a game's release date effects anything As someone who didnt play the game back in 2011, and is playing it now, it's alright.
It affects it because it's an MMO with a terrible free to play model that nickels and dimes you on even basic shit like toolbars if you don't subscribe. If you are paying a monthly subscription then they should release decently quality content after the initial release, which they haven't done in years.
The trailers are the only decent thing about this game. It's so mismanaged it's just disappointing. Bad story, and bad gameplay. It doesn't do anything right.
A couple of the class stories are great. KotFE is even better. You get access to all expansions and all content if you sub. It's worth it IMO, while at launch it wasn't worth $60 + $15/mo no matter what you said. A real let down. But TODAY, as long as you subscribe, it's a pretty great little experience and totally worth the money. A lot of changes make it less of a grindy space bar mashing boring MMO and turn it into a more KotOR experience, allowing you to just do class missions to level up and not have to worry about sides
Honestly if TOR was a single player game it would be pretty good on it's own merits. While it's not a bad mmo, it's drifted away from really being one to more of a singleplayer RPG with MMO elements to it. Personally I would shift it over to the DA:I engine(hell DA:I was gonna be an MMO), supplement blaster gameplay into something similar to how Mass Effect did it, with lightsabers being sword play in DA:I. Maybe make the fighter sequences something gimmicky how singeplayer is on rails as it was before. Story wise I'd have all the player class be able to interact with one another as NPCs, for example if you're an Agent then you do flashpoint and have a your other character that could be a Sith Warrior but has to be of appropriate level, and doing a FP that both factions share would lock it out for the other faction to represent who actually won that one. Of course at Shadows of Revan is where class you most enjoy playing and want to continue with becomes the Alliance Commander. Multiplayer I'd have something like what ME3 and DA:I had with PVP,Operations and Starfighter. Multiplayer content
KOTFE to me just felt like such a paradigm shift in how the game played and felt that it just didn't feel like I was playing SWTOR anymore. If it was it's own game, or its own story or whatever, I probably wouldn't have been so turned off by it... but it ended up feeling awkward and out of place. It's like they wanted to win over the "ITS NOT KOTOR3 ;~;" crowd while totally shafting the fans they had, and it ended up being neither here nor there... It was a bummer to be really invested in the game and then the story and design philosophy takes such a hard turn that it drove me away completely. They had some neat ideas going on in KOTFE, but frankly it wasn't done well enough for me to look past the fact that they kinda gutted a game I really enjoyed to make it.
and you had to pay without fail for close to a year to get the conclusion to a story arc from a previous expansion.
What? No you didn't? [editline]7th October 2016[/editline]
Personally I would shift it over to the DA:I engine
You mean the Frostbite 3 engine?
What? No you didn't? [editline]7th October 2016[/editline] You mean the Frostbite 3 engine?
Yes you did, to get the HK bonus chapter, which concluded the Shroud storyline from the first expansion.
Really, now? of all the things I've heard about SW:TOR, the one thing that everybody says is that it has a great story, especially for an MMO.
Not exactly raising the bar "This porn has the best dialog"
Not exactly raising the bar "This porn has the best dialog"
You really cannot say the gameplay is amazing because it's generic MMO, mash a button type combat. Otherwise the merits it has is that the dialog and story overall is great, some of it serious and other times is old campy Star Wars dialog that you'd expect.I'd admit there are cringey moments, though many games have those moments of cringe, so it's not over bearing. World wise there all nice, though at times it's generic as fuck to use Tattoonie because they need a desert planet, or Hoth for an ice world.
Yes you did, to get the HK bonus chapter, which concluded the Shroud storyline from the first expansion.
Oh that. I was thinking main story.
The story content is really the only thing in TOR that doesn't suck. The gameplay is completely uninspired and is a blatant WoW clone. The endgame is either not there or completely boring and the raids are insanely dull. Outside of the story arcs for the character classes, theres not a damn thing to do in the game thats actually fun.
What's with the aesthetic in this trailer? Those costumes don't make me think Star Wars at all. Not in the slightest bit.
What's with the aesthetic in this trailer? Those costumes don't make me think Star Wars at all. Not in the slightest bit.
well the game is 3600 years before the movies.
I have to disagree with you 90%
The story is utter shit how can you defend it?

I had a ton of a fun with them, however they are too slow to come out and Bioware lacked the supporting content for them for the most part. Gameplay style being a WoW clone isn't a negative IMO but they can't balance it to save their lives, and aren't even doing balance passes outside of expansion releases anymore.
What's with the aesthetic in this trailer? Those costumes don't make me think Star Wars at all. They actually look like an order or knights rather than moisture farmers with swords
