It's good that they included Super Hamster Dumps on this DYKG. He's very knowledgeable of MGS.
Really needed more of the radio chats. I think it's hard to make a did you know for this though, with how many people love the game and have already explored all it's secrets.
Am I the only one being bugged by how he pronounced Papillion? It's supposed to be "pap-ee-on" not "pap-ill-ion"
He's from the South, they don't do French loanwords well down here. He also pronounces "genre" like "john-ruh."
is... genre NOT pronounced john-ruh???
He's from the South, they don't do French loanwords well down here. He also pronounces "genre" like "john-ruh."
But it is.
I was always taught that the 'gen' in 'genre' was pronounced "Jeanne" (Like from Bayonetta Jeanne not like "jeans").
Language is loosely defined by how the native speakers of that language use it, so both pronunciations are equally valid. I was just pointing out that George is from Georgia where it's more common to hear genre pronounced like "john-rah" rather than "zhan-rah" because Southern dialects tend to anglicize loanwords rather than say them closer to their original pronunciations. You'll also hear him say "nucular" rather than "nuclear" because that's simply how those around him say the word and how that word is commonly realized in that area of the US.
literally who cares
Maybe you should read the thread because this guy
Am I the only one being bugged by how he pronounced Papillion? It's supposed to be "pap-ee-on" not "pap-ill-ion"

He's from the South, they don't do French loanwords well down here. I feel like people who attack others on how they say things all the time must live pretty shitty lives tbh. How do you know you're right? Instead of saying "john-rah" do you say "gen-rah"? I would know what you're saying regardless. But not correct you since that's probably how you've always said it.
is... genre NOT pronounced john-ruh???
no. it's a french word, much like 'garage', the g is pronounced like in Jean Reno
Huh, I thought it was pronounced Ghen-ray.
'how do you know you're right?' because words have origins beethoven was german. they pronounce it 'batehoven'. with things like names especially, you pronounce them how that person would pronounce their own name.
True. But not everyone knows the origins of some words. Therefore some people just go with how they think the word sounds based on how it's spelled. For example, Beethoven. Unless you know the origin of the name "Beethoven", you go with how you think it sounds. Similar with a name like Tidus (from FFX). Again, not everyone knows that the way you're actually meant to pronounce it is "tee-dus" based on how it's said in Japanese. Instead go with "ty-dus" because again, you go with how it is spelled. Then again, some people say it's "tee-dus" without knowing the origin and that's how they've come to say it. But there's nothing exactly wrong with pronouncing any word or name differently from someone else.
Did you know pronunciation? Feat. Facepunch
Idk, i pronounce it as zhan-reh. Fight me.
The few tidbits that I didn't know about sounded pretty interesting. [sp]Snake getting poisoned with erection venom completely ruined that segment for me though[/sp]
