Even though this is a different country, it's amazing to see how accurately Rockstar depicted the slums in Max Payne 3. They look almost identical to the real thing.

Mercenaries 2 got it way wrong
Dude this is spot ON. Holy crap they really went for the actual source of all shit, really really well researched documentary over an issue that NEEDS international exposure. I'm sick of living in this fucking warzone as well. Thanks Vice, hopefully we'll get some help now.
This is really depressing. I have a friend from Venezuela. And the thought of him living through this hell all his life makes me really sad. The city he lives in is relatively safe but still... :(
I live in Caracas. On a safer area, but I used to live very close to Petare on the 90's. It's as bad as it looks, and sounds, I've had family killed, friends held ransom, rampant gun crime, robberies everywhere, guys in bikes going around highways looking for easy kills or somebody with a cellphone to snatch. It's getting out of hand.

Vice doesn't really back down from the issues at hand, and that's something I love about them. Interesting topics, and very well made.
Venezuela has enough oil to be one of the richest, most developed countries in South America, but the situation just keeps getting worse.

That's what angers me. I'd love for the country my friend lives in to become more developed and safer, but Chavez fucked everything up with his bullshit. And yet Venezuela has so many resources! Including oil! The elections are coming up VERY soon. I seriously hope the Venezuelans make the right choice this time. :(
I don't understand. How can a country with so much income from oil trade can have such a huge issue with crime?
One would think with such a huge load of money they'd have a big and effective police force.

Corruption, most likely. Socialist governments never really have the right to call themselves 'socialist', it always ends up being a cover for a corrupted government structure, never a government that actually attempts to implement socialist ideals beyond nationalizing industries to get money flowing to itself.
