8 episodes in total I'm on to episode 6 currently and it's just a really smooth sci-fi series paying homage to a lot of things. Monsters, alternate dimensions, psychic kids, government cover ups and a shit ton of references.
i watched the first episode so far on a whim and i thought it was pretty good. left me wanting to see more in any case.
The editing and the color balance feel a bit off to me. The cuts feel too fast and the atmosphere feels like it should be moodier and "juicier" than it currently is.
I binged the show last night, it gets good and gets better as the show moves along.
Binged till 5AM on it, ended on ep 6. Can't wait to find the time to watch 7 and 8. The [sp]first time the monster tried to come out of the wall in Will's house scared the living fuck out of me. There would have been no way I was willing to trust the house or any other wall again. I even freaked out when she hopped into the car.[/sp]
awesome, most definitely interested in this
Seems like they're pushing for Season 2 just hope this does well enough. Ending wasn't massively open but definitely enough to do some more with it. http://collider.com/shawn-levy-dan-cohen-stranger-things-interview/

This show has everything I'm all about. Thanks for posting this OP, been wanting a cool show to watch. I can't believe there's not more tv shows with monsters in it ahhhh.
i didn't even finish the video in the op to know that i need to watch this.
mmmmmm dat synth
Gone through 6 episodes and the toothless kid has to be my favourite character.
Watched it all in a single evening. It felt like a delightful throwback to classic horror movies, but with far richer characters. I was impressed by the layers many had even though they were initially presented as the black-and-white stereotypes (bumbling/lazy sheriff, jock boyfriend, etcetera). The kids were pretty decent actors too, especially Eleven.
Just finished binge watching it. So glad I clicked on this thread, thanks spekter Fuckin hope they do another season and if they do I hope they can expand to 10-12 eps
I randomly saw a shot of winona rider in TIME and it mentioned a good performance, so when I saw it on netflix yesterday evening I decided to check it out. and boy am I glad that I did. this show is excellent. i'm only 2 episodes in right now. I won't spoil the basic setup of the plot because it's executed wonderfully in the first episode. but on a conceptual level you've got three tiers of characters: kids, teens, and adults. for ONCE, the kids in this show are written and portrayed very, very well. generally kids in television and movies are fucking insufferable. in Stranger Things, they feel like real kids, and are relatable - not annoying. camerawork is great, subtly changing depending on what characters are on screen at any given time (aforementioned kids/teens/adults), and following the tone of each individual scene. it's comfortable showing characters in closeup, and from medium - long. great establishing shots that instead of feeling like you're in a helicopter looking at a vast expanse (a la LOTR), you feel like you're standing there looking at each scene, with the camera flowing well from element to element naturally. editing is great. it plays with the pacing, holding on scenes longer than you would expect, and doing harsh cuts where you wouldn't expect. gives a great feeling of disorientation and keeps the suspense and wonder going. and by god the soundtrack is awesome. I don't think I've seen a television show in years use music so well, especially for worldbuilding. it's used to cement the audience in the time period (1980s) and to demonstrate the connections between characters. it's used in a really interesting way both atmospherically and as a means of character development; flashbacks are actually handled through music and the environment, which reflects the ways our brains actually work when we remember shit. the whole thing basically feels like a timewarp back to the 80s where spielberg remade ET for a more mature audience. i cannot recommend it enough. in pacing and tone it really feels like a nostalgic trip. when the opening credits rolled through I just thought "WELP I GUESS I LOVE THIS NOW"
Its the perfect tide over to rewatch and analyze before Twin Peaks comes back.
so how is this show different than Super 8?
so how is this show different than Super 8?
it isn't a pure spielberg wankfest, and also has substance to it.
so how is this show different than Super 8?
It's way better for starters
I watched all of it yesterday, its pretty good but some of the explanations for things doesn't really sell it for me, and cheap jump scares.
Only thing I didn't like was regarding the monster [sp]they revealed it way to early and it looked like a fuckin enemy from the newer Resident Evils[/sp]
Started watching this, it's really good. [sp]I just started the third episode, I'm not really sure how the whole teenage romance thing with Nancy and Steve is important so it's just frustrating to watch when there's mystery shit going on.[/sp] This reminds me of X-Files and Fringe kinda, I'm not sure how the plot for the season turns out yet, but I think would be an interesting move for the show would be each season being an entirely separate and unrelated story.
this show really nailed the atmosphere of actually being creepy
Started watching it, Love it so far! Does a good job of being creepy! [editline]edit[/editline] The music is pretty sick too
saw a youtube video ad for this, pretty much the only time a youtube ad has caught my attention. Gonna have to give this a watch.
I just watched the first episode of this with one of my buds. Decently spooky and I like the characters. Definitely got an x-files vibe from this too which is good. I think this is a show I'm going to want to watch the whole way through.
I wonder [sp]how they will go about season 2, doesn't seem like there is much to go off of.[/sp]
Watched all of this last Saturday. Amazing show. Best Netflix Original so far.
Just finished episode 4. I'm really enjoying this and the acting is really really good Probably going to try and binge the rest this afternoon!
Watched the first 2 episodes so far, damn this is good. Unlike most horror shows/films you never expect any of the spooky stuff to actually happen in any particular scene until they do. [sp]Also that one kid's dad was great. Whut I dooooo?[/sp]
