• [Kickstarter] A Stanly Kubrick Joint

Hello yes, I am making movie, it will be very deep and artistic. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/drfacedoctor/a-stanly-kubrick-joint In all seriousness, my friends and I are really into this and we're starting with this movie to get a headstart into more serious movie making. This is essentially going to be a parody of all those artsy-fartsy indie films that have been cropping up lately, but that doesn't mean we aren't going to try to make it look and play out as well as possible. Our pitch video looks pretty shit, and that's because we filmed it on an iphone, but we have a lot of experience working with better equipment and acquiring a better camera and other gear is the main purpose of the kickstarter since we have a lot of the other movie-related pieces in place already. Sorry if this isn't allowed here, I couldn't find a better board for this. Just let me know and I'll snip the thread or something.
Stanly?
Stanly?
So we don't get sued. It's like Son of Rambow.
No offense but there really isn't a whole lot of compelling and creative content on that kickstarter page. I'm not going to pretend to be an independent film expert or anything but you're kind of doing it wrong, if you want to make a film with your friends don't start trying to get funding and making a big deal out of it. Just start filming! You can get a decent camera used for about $300-$400, even then a nice camera isn't the be all and end all of good film making. It's really only fairly minor part, the real good stuff is determined by whoever is in front of and behind the camera. What I'm trying to get at has already been perfectly stated by Tarantino: "If you want to make a movie, make it. Don't wait for a grant, don't wait for the perfect circumstances, just make it."

We're not exactly working on high salaries or anything. And yeah, it doesn't look great, but that's what we have right now. I know you probably won't look too far into it but I did link my youtube and vimeo pages.
If you can't make a good film without asking for $5000 you won't make one with $5000
If you can't make a good film without asking for $5000 you won't make one with $5000
So you're saying I should just make a movie with my iphone and no lighting or audio equipment?
So you're saying I should just make a movie with my iphone and no lighting or audio equipment?
It's quite possible. And as a thought, an iPhone film sounds like it would compliment indie parody nicely. The thing is, asking for such a large amount requires people to actually know quite a bit about you. This is the first time I've heard of your endeavors, alongside Facepunch itself. The campaign video itself wasn't very enticing beyond the intro(which was very nice, by the way). I'm just saying it's gonna take an INSANE amount of advertising than this to get this kickstarter off the ground.
You guys should at least film once scene of your movie and put it as teaser for the kickstarter.

Not massive, but I think maybe enough to get the ball rolling on that end.
You guys should at least film once scene of your movie and put it as teaser for the kickstarter.
If that's good then no doubt the $5000 will compliment the rest of the film, but if you are unable to make an entertaining piece of film with a regular camera and editing software (like I said) it won't work at all.
Why did you name it Stanly Kubrick?
