holly sheet the 3:35 mark and the [sp]scream[/sp]
yeah the plot of Civil War was pretty meh
yeah the plot of Civil War was pretty meh
It was a little by-the-numbers but one thing I think it did really well was the villain. [sp]That nice misdirection towards the audience regarding the 5 other supersolders was great. The movie sets the audience into "Oh, great, now we're going to have 5 insurmountable badasses that the Avengers will just miraculously defeat through the power of teamwork. Goody, haven't seen this before." And then...it pulls it right out from under you and has the villain execute them, and say outright "You think I want MORE of you?" Beyond that, he actually SUCCEEDED. Maybe not as dramatically as he intended, but the Avengers are no longer a cohesive unit that trusts one another. That's kinda cool.[/sp]
yeah the plot of Civil War was pretty meh
I was liking it up until the part where Zemo says [sp]he orchestrated all the events of the movie specifically to make the Avengers fight each other[/sp]. Then I called bullshit. It turns the plot into one of those shit plots that hinges entirely on a bunch of coincidences that the villain couldn't have possibly predicted.
There was too much comic relief in civil war.
There was too much comic relief in civil war.
I had no problem with comic relief, but I did feel that there was a super huge tonal shift that was completely out of place. Spoilers below: [sp]In the first act, it was your usual "hardcore but with light moments" marvel film, where minor jokes and one-offs are tossed here and there, but much of the meat is still intense. The second act was just a comedy show, which was really entertaining on its own, and was a fun way to show off abilities of the heroes. However, the third act was Dark Knight levels of gritty and melodramatic, and it felt really, REALLY awkward to go from Ant Man being Giant Ant Man and Spiderman jokes to "I get to see my parents get murdered"[/sp]
