Isnt the russians planning on making a moonbase? Or is that just something my mind made up?
Also: aeuio
Aeiou I agree we need a permanent moonbase.
There's enough money to do this
Do it

Enough money to do it but not enough money in it. Unless somehow there were space dinosaurs and space swamps on the moon that have since turned to oil. And assuming there's a cost effective way to get it back to Earth.

Moon rocks are useful for Science. Just as Cave Johnson.

There really isn't.
except a moonbase would serve little purpose other than making facepunchers moist
So he's mad because Star Trek isn't real yet?
God damn. I'm an Atheist but this guy is just a massive dick.

It would be a huge step in history. Ontop of it just being a useless expensive trophy, we could use it to launch other spacecraft at the fraction of the cost. The only reason we don't have plans for this is because there is no corporate will to do this. There is no incentive for companies to do the r/d to get into space and produce sustainable bases on bodies other than earth.
The point of this is that we're where we started. We've got the means to get to the moon, why we don't take that venture again is beyond me.
Ron Paul? PRESIDENT OF THE MOON?
YEEEEEEEEEES

Except that you have to first get the building materials to the Moon, which would completely defeat the purpose because you'd be moving the same amount of mass as you would if you launched the spacecraft directly from Earth. The only way a moon base would be useful to launch spacecraft is if the materials present on the Moon could be used, instead of those on Earth.

Not to mention the expenses required for R&D for making a building capable of sustaining life support constantly for however long the base will be running, shipping the materials (and a build team) up there, getting scientists, engineers, and doctors who are willing to potentially spend the rest of their lives up there, shipping food and water (plus oxygen, if the base is not recycling it) up there, recycling/getting rid of waste materials, maintaining communications 24/7 for the foreseeable future, training the personnel, and training replacements for personnel for in case someone dies or is otherwise removed from the base.
Totally worth it, right?
And this is just for a single base. The Amazing Atheist is talking about moving an entire city up there. Not going to fucking happen.

Fuck money, why can't humanity just pull its shit together as a collective race just build a goddamn moon base and no one has to pay for it. Fuck paper work, fuck budgeting and zoning, fuck financing, and all the other bullshit that comes with construction and just bring together a team of badass specialists because who the fuck wouldn't want to design a moon base. Then just let countries donate materials to the cause and build that shit.
