looks like a typical gears game, not a bad thing though.
Eh when I play Gears I want stupid dumb gore, not blowing up robots... At least there's still The Swarm. [editline]9th August 2016[/editline] But hey if this ever comes to PC I'd give it a go. I could go for another fill of Gears.

I thought you fight mutant underground roaches in Gears of War, not randomly exploding robots... Also, where's the ridiculous amounts of gore??
"shit they're going to mess up my FUCKING TOMATOES!!!"
Seeing the graphics in this new gears really highlights how great gears 3 looked. Seems like nothing's really changed despite the generation leap.
We were told this new Gears was suppose to have a more survival horror feel like the original, I don't know how I feel about robots being a part of that.
I'm ok with robots, as long as they stop saying 'RELOADING' every few seconds.
That enforcer gun he insists on using seems utterly worthless.
We were told this new Gears was suppose to have a more survival horror feel like the original, I don't know how I feel about robots being a part of that.
Robots can be scary as dicks if done correctly. But these? These look too human to really be scary. I'm talking about shit with sawblades on the end of it that can cut directly into your guts and blood flies everywhere and etc.
looks inseparable from the first imo but I guess if thats what you want then you'd enjoy it.
what was fun about GoW imo, was the dark environments and the feel of being outnumbered, plowing through hoards of enemies while the blood was sprayed everywhere this doesn't feel like it goes in the right direction
Robots can be scary as dicks if done correctly. But these? These look too human to really be scary. I'm talking about shit with sawblades on the end of it that can cut directly into your guts and blood flies everywhere and etc.
I remember the locust use to send chills down my spine. Hearing that chugging sound from a torque bow, followed by a "die groundwalker" from a Theron guard was something that always made me panic and jump for the nearest piece of wall. I don't really understand where they are going with this Gears. I get that it's in the future after the war between humans and locust are done, but robots? Where did they come from? Did the humans make them? If so, that's doesn't make a whole helluva lot of sense to me, since didn't the humans almost get wiped out, so where did they get the know how? I mean Baird maybe? But I'm sure he'd be against that, and if he did, I doubt it'd have turned on us. Judging by Marcus and his son, this probably takes place what, like 18-20 years after? His son looking like he's at most 24, and Marcus can't be that old, the gray hair and stuff is just stress from having to fight everyday, so that'd aged him quickly. So if it is only a short time after the war, where did we get the resources to make this robot soldiers, to remake an airforce of some sort to fly them around. That short amount of time is not enough for the human race to bounce back from a war that dwindled us down to what a handful of people, that were living on a oil rig? You got your stranded though, the stranded hated the cog, and they had to deal with the immulision zombies, and the wild locusts, and plus I'm sure the COG and the stranded had their firefights, so that dwindled both sides down even more. Robots just don't make sense to me. I mean Robots compared to the brutal, unstoppable, animal like war tactics of the locust, I just see this being a good tps. I'm still gonna get the game, I love Gears, hell I plan to get a tattoo of the crimson gear, along with other game based tattoos like Deadspace and all that. It just this seems to be missing that "Oh shit, this enemy wants to murder everything and everyone of my kind. No raping, no pillaging, no co-existing with eachother, just pure wants to see my mangled corpse under their boots." With robots I get that "Oh, so it's robots, and that means they are most likely being run by another human." I honestly hope they make a Gears where we can see the locusts side. From what I've read, and looked up, the locusts were merely trying to escape the infection of the immulsion, the queen gave Marcus's dad the job of trying to find a cure for her people, when he failed she invaded the surface. The reason she didn't seek out our help was because she watched the war between the COG and the Indies and decided that humans would only seek out their own gain from her people. in short: Advanced war robots with a airforce strong enough to paradrop said robots makes no sense to me, especially since the humans just got out a really long war that almost killed them all. But it will be nice to revists old characters. I hope Cole and Baird are still kicking. Dom's dumbass couldn't accept his families fate "boo-hoo I lost people in a war that left millions dead, and families torn apart, boo-hoo I can't man up and accept that I'm not the only one." He's one person I'm glad won't make an appearance, unless it's in an ashtray.
Robots can be scary as dicks if done correctly. But these? These look too human to really be scary. I'm talking about shit with sawblades on the end of it that can cut directly into your guts and blood flies everywhere and etc.
Exactly. The problem with making enemies "scary" in a gears of war game is that they are always designed around the cover system, so ultimately it doesn't matter how imposing an enemy is if they are limited to the cover system. It's part of the reason the berserker and the lambent wretches maintained their "spook factor" more than the average locust, they threw the player out of their cover system comfort zone. Now I don't think every enemy should throw the cover system out, but I'm hoping we get an enemy that actually throws the cover system out the window and makes the player have to get out of that comfort zone. Edit: Those armored kantus fuckers from gow 3 are a good example of this. I was dreading facing those guys because they not only looked fucked up, but their instant kill roll move did have to get me out of cover. Only problem is they fell flat because they fell to "shoot the big glowy spot to win" rule
Now I don't think every enemy should throw the cover system out, but I'm hoping we get an enemy that actually throws the cover system out the window and makes the player have to get out of that comfort zone.
They literally show both a flying robot that flanks and a rolling ball 2 minutes into the gameplay video.
That destruction is very nice. Did they really need godmode for this? It's not even a live demo
They literally show both a flying robot that flanks and a rolling ball 2 minutes into the gameplay video.
And what is JD using to combat said flying robot? A piece of cover. The whole point of my post is that they want to go back to having some survival horror feel and the feel of facing the unknown, but having to work around the cover system and our familiarity with said cover system makes it really hard to get that feeling of horror and fighting the unknown. That's the reason why I brought up the armored kantus and the berserker. Those are 2 enemies where you can't really hide behind a piece of cover and shoot at them. I'm optimistic about this game, and enemies you combat using the cover system is an obvious yes in a cover based shooter, but I'm hoping they have enemies that bring some innovation to the table that aren't remixes of the cover system. This flying robot and these rolling balls at their core are just reskins of the ticker and shrieker now that locust are off the table. Another example of an enemy that introduces a new challenge that doesn't work around the cover system is the baby corpser. I'm going to reiterate this again. When I played the original Gears of War in 2006, I was legitimately scared at moments. Unknown world, unknown enemy, and an overwhelming feeling of fighting a hopeless battle. Part of the reason why I had this feeling was because I was inexperienced with the game, the weapons, the enemies. But if I go back now it's not scary at all, because I have had an entire decade to familiarize myself with it, and so have many others. Getting rid of the locust, introducing the swarm, it's all a step in the right direction, but right now I'm just seeing a lot of locust enemies with new faces. The basic swarm classes are even the same as the basic locust classes. [t]https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vYWpQAU1S9k/maxresdefault.jpg[/t] I'm ok with this, but I'm hoping it isn't all GoW4 has to offer.
I get that they're proud of their weather effect but do they really need to show it off in every gameplay video to date?
I thought you fight mutant underground roaches in Gears of War, not randomly exploding robots... Also, where's the ridiculous amounts of gore??
In GoW 3, [sp]all Locust are killed, along with all the Lambent infected people + Locust, when Marcus Fenix's Father activated that lambent destroyer machine thingy.[/sp] Can't answer about the gore though.
The design of those new guns looks like shit. It's like they just took some rectangles, added some greebles, and called it a day
I miiight pick this up just because it'll be one of the few xbox one games that'll support HDR with the One S, and since i have a 4k tv (and a boner for hdr) i might as well. i'll be interested to see how it improves a game like this. though honestly i've never been a fan of gears, but i've also never really played one for longer than 5 minutes. i do have the ultimate edition, just never played it, so i might give that a playthrough soon.
