• BM vs. HL1 Comparison

Because my oblivion vs. skyrim armor comparison was fairly successful, I tried out a comparison between BM and HL1 Note, because I decided to record in 1080p there is some choppiness (I use dxtory, but because of my shit hard drive, even that lags at times) and sony vegas ended up corrupting one of the later clips :v:
man, when I look at Half-Life now it just seems so colourless and dull.
The high-tech areas look amazing in BMS, especially compared to what they were like in HL1. The robot surgeon is the biggest improvement.

I don't think if I'll be able to complete HL1 after this hahaha. It's like "Why bother" if there's something way better.
i was amazed when i first played it the graphics and sound just blew my fucking balls off

Worth the wait.
This is what HD remakes should be.
The teleporter room is absolutely amazing compared to what it was. Hell, everything is amazing.
BM reminds me a lot of Portal 2, the same kind of atmosphere of being trapped in this huuuuge facility, much moreso than with HL1 [editline]16th September 2012[/editline] And I find I don't really think of it as "this is a community mod remake of HL" I think "this is HL1", like I have mentally retconned the original game. They really did it justice
When I played BM, I thought to myself "there is no need to play HL1 anymore" other than nostalgia. Well, are we going to see a HL2 remake in 10 years :v: ?
I cannot wait to see what Xen looks like.
That looks absolutely amazing. I can't wait for this to hit steam.
I'm hoping that it will hit steam when the xen part + deathmatch is released. So that the definitive black mesa would be on steam. They could also fix some things from the first release (animations etc)
I felt more trapped, and a lot more tense in BM because obviously the graphics and sound have come a long way, I was waiting since it was announced and I'd hyped it up to be utterly stupendous! and I wasn't let down.
When you look at all that radioactive waste and how bright it is in BM, it's quite beautiful.
Wait the xen parts not even in the mod?... you'd think they would relase the full game, or atleast have release the game when done...
Wait the xen parts not even in the mod?... you'd think they would relase the full game, or atleast have release the game when done...
I would rather play the mod now than have to wait another year for the xen parts to be finished.
Wait the xen parts not even in the mod?... you'd think they would relase the full game, or atleast have release the game when done...
The team said they're going to make Xen "a game of it's own" and I'm totally okay with that.
Worth the wait, and the mod is worth playing for everyone that played half life and also for everyone that never played half life.
The thing is, if you haven't played half life and play black mesa. It's hard to get into half life because pretty much everything about black mesa is better than in half life.
Wait the xen parts not even in the mod?... you'd think they would relase the full game, or atleast have release the game when done...
Here's something for you to think about, the game up to the teleporter stage is pretty finalised, xen they are still working on. Do you want to wait another year on top of the 8 year wait or would you rather play what they have sat ready now? The developers thought it was best to release what they had to reduce the amount of stress and complaining they were getting so they can now focus on the next part of the game. So quit whining and play what is polished because its really fucking good.
Black mesa source while nice looking is nothing compared to the origional. They removed vast areas such as on a rail, which was about 75% longer, they removed the challenge of many puzzles, and they haven't even finished xen yet. Black mesa source is for people who have played HL1 and want to play it with nicer graphics and stuff, otherwise play HL1, it's better gameplay wise.
Half-Life 1 is better in gameplay, balancing, polish, and music. Black Mesa is better in logic, mapping, sound design, and atmosphere. I love both equally and can play both any time and it wouldn't be boring. However, black mesa seems to be a lot slower paced in parts, sometimes you can just be walking looking at scenery for a long time without too many enemy encounters, it does pick up later in the game though.
Absolutely love BM, it's nice to play an old game I used to love with new graphics, although bullsquids are a fucking pain in the ass with the amount of spread on their spit.

On easy, I struggle to find health packs, and etc, ammo is also pretty scarce. And I die way more than I do on easier levels, but this might be just me. Oh, and I'm playing on easy.

What I mainly do is use the pistol/smg/revolver for most encounters, and once that is running low I pull out all the shotty ammo I have been saving (shottys are really good against grunts). Also crossbow is more useful than you think. Make sure you are using those smg grenades properly also.

Soldiers die super fast in this now, but so do you. In half-life 1 the grunts were fucking bullet sponges.
