Why do people hate Abbott so much? Did he do something really bad or is it just the standard politician hate?
Why do people hate Abbott so much? Did he do something really bad or is it just the standard politician hate?
He's singlehandedly destroyed the concept of government in our country and turned it into a shitflinging contest at a circus all the while screwing over everyone and everything in a clusterfuck whirlwind of authoritarian stupidity, he's our Bush.

People talk shit and then when it comes voting time they will only vote for the major parties again.
That's how Abbott got in in the first fucking place.

It's every recent prime minister, Abbott is a dickhead, and he is getting blammed for a lot of past minister mistakes like the debt we have in Australia. Every recent PM we have had were absolute shit, fucking over ever school kids too, first they took away our laptops, now they rise our school fees, the pricks.
Our whole government is fucked really.
I wish it worked more like, Australia runs itself, in a controlled manner. The Prime Minister shouldn't be seen as the head of Australia, he should be seen as the representative, who represents what we want.
Also, they are all bias as fuck. Like, we had a referendum a while back for independence, and the way the question was set up, was basically rigged for the PM to get the answer he wanted.
and recently more then 50% of Australia voted for gay marriage, and jack shit has happened.

He also wants to keep us at a shitty internet cap.

Welcome to politics son. Glad to see you've come out from under that rock and realize what politics is under the current government.

A lot of FP members are shortsighted with their hate for the current government, however they have incurred a number of failings and policy fuckups.
Abbott is just socially awkward and pretty stupid in the public eye, he has a stutter and looks like he has anxiety and everyone bashes him for it, I personally think people are way too harsh on that shit, and it also takes away from the real questions which should be asked.

Simply not true. The government wants to scrap the current NBN plans and replace it with their own.
The initial plans for the NBN came from the Howard era (funny I know), however never came to fruition under their government because at the time it wasn't important, then under the labor government this was on the cards to gain popularity with the average voter and bring this idea of a "National broadband network" into the real world. The intent of this scheme was great at the start, a fully funded government broadband network. However after being short of funds after trying to meet budget, the labor government made deals with Telstra that fucked the Australian consumer for decades, privatizing the rollout, securing a lasting monopoly for Telstra over Australian internet.
This isn't exactly horrible though, it still meant a NBN rollout, but with huge cost to the consumer. It just made the whole NBN redundant, because Telstra was planning to lay down fibre before the government's announced NBN, and the outcome would have been the same. Now Abbott is just putting the nail in the coffin, because the NBN turned out to be a clusterfuck with Telstra deals and delays at every corner.

Where other countries are trying to come up with ways to halt or reduce emissions, his government went completely backwards and removed our tax on carbon emissions without at least doing something sensible like implementing an emissions trading scheme (which has support from all sides of politics, even his own party).
He wants to implement a $7 'co-payment' (tax), every time someone visits their GP. The reason we have GST exemptions for things such as most foods is because no matter if you're rich or poor, you have to buy that kind of stuff. But there is no such low-income exemption for this plan.
He wants to remove the cap on how much universities can charge students for the courses they do, citing competition to keep the prices down despite the fact that universities can already compete on price but they don't. Another part of this is decreasing the government liability-free contribution for students from 60% of course costs to 50% of course costs (but if you ask me, I think the latter is reasonable).
Another thing he likes to go on about is state rights and delegating more power away from the federal level towards them. Except when the ACT went to legalise gay marriage, so his government took the ACT state government to court over that.
Stuff like that.

The electoral system for the House is biased towards the major parties. Because you have to preference every candidate on the ballot for your vote to be counted, and say that you vote for smaller candidates first before larger ones, the smaller candidates gradually get eliminated and the vote ends up going towards a major party candidate, who you might have preferenced second-last but who the full value of your vote goes towards. It would be very similar even if preferencing was optional or not allowed, and that's because having single-seat electorates is an inherently majoritarian system.
There's a reason why whichever party holds government often has problems with getting legislation passed the Senate, and that's because the Senate is proportional instead of majoritarian, so major parties never win majorities in the Senate.

Well a few days ago he said that Australia was 'nothing but bush' before the first colonisers arrived. And that's just one of the moronic things he says weekly.

The debt we have is nothing, literally it's one of the best in the world. The media just makes it seem like an issue to push politics.
You are right about the schools, I used to work in schools and they took a massive budget cut when Abbott got in.
Rudd wasn't bad at all.

You are kidding right? It was the Coalition that made the deal to privatize. Right?
Afaik, since the election the cost of the NBN doubled because they sat on their asses and we are getting worse internet for it. If Labour was allowed to keep at it, it would have cost a lot less and we would have a better infrastructure.
Why do people hate Abbott so much? Did he do something really bad or is it just the standard politician hate?
He's a complete dumbass and an embarrassment.
I mean for fuck's sake, his speech at the G20 was basically "Wahhh, the Australian public don't like that I'm trying to charge them more for medicine and deregulate university fees so it's harder to get further education!", because a gathering of world leaders is totally the best place to complain about national budget issues rather than discussing international problems.

nothing but bush
It's pretty shitty to discredit a society that lived there, especially after they were forced into slavery and the stolen generation occurred.

Nope, Labor decided on the privatization, and the initial decay of the project. The Coalition just killed it entirely and replaced it with an alternative project which is just as bad if not worse.

Except it was actually nothing but bush, how is that even discrediting them? They were a people who lived off the land and treated the land/animals with respect.
It has nothing to do with slavery or the stolen generation.
People just like getting offended for others, and over stupid shit.
