Well this was unexpected. Looks uninteresting IMO. I mean the execution looks good I guess, but I don't like the idea.
Don't really play Dota that much, but I'll probably check it out, seems interesting.
looks pretty good
those people are dumb because really? it may support you for awhile but how long do you think being a pro gamer will last? its not a reliable job and i can guarantee it wont last your whole life
so in the end, you'll be fucked over having done shit in school because of playing video games 24/7 and then it will be even harder to get a job because you thought you could sustain yourself being a pro gamer
hyper sick footage of people who sit alone all day talk to people about an uninteresting subject
"we'll make millions"
This is like the "Indie Movie: The Game" documentary where it just ends up being a really sad movie about people who have no one else, as they talk about that games are all they have.

god forbid people in their 20's play a game they enjoy competitively for money.

they have no other career, maybe even no other credentials. what do you think an employer thinks when he sees "professional gamer"
He will laugh in your face
funny because top players like dendi are richer than the average yearly salary in their home countries.

and most if not all players who are in their early 20's are attending college/has a job lined up/ has a degree.

A lot of pro players also have full time jobs.
Those who don't usually are in University or some other education.
Not every pro player does nothing but play games you know.
Argh, Beardy, your edit ninja'd me.
This wouldn't be nearly as melodramatic if it had SingSing in it.
The drama almost made me stop the video.
Poor poor poor kids finding their way of live and out of their problems.
Did anyone mention that PC parts are a multi-trillion dollar industry?
[editline]17th August 2012[/editline]
Don't get me wrong but I am just saying that any society where people can spend enough time playing games to get even REMOTELY close to the skill level required to CONSIDER entering Pro Gaming can't be that poor and miserable.

Money =/= happiness
Obviously there are people who are worse off, but everyone's problems are relative, and to be honest, if I got kicked out of my house because of what I wanted to do with my life I'd be pretty miserable
I really hope they use epic cinematics to represent what is going on during the DOTA games, it would make this film so much better.

Would you use epic cinematics to represent a game of chess?
There should be a cinematic Half Life movie instead...

If you had something that you were passionate about and somebody was making a documentary about it, you'd probably talk about it a lot too.
Sad? They seem to enjoy it.
That's like saying it's 'sad to stay at home on the computer on a friday night when you could be out partying'.
Uninteresting subject? Uninteresting to YOU, not to a lot of us.
Stop having a cry over things that you don't enjoy
what about counter strike :(
If they do this, they have to cover SC2 and the fighting game scene, not just Valve games.

I don't think they want to make it a career. Looks like a documentary on some people who already fucked up by playing games that it's pretty much the one thing they're best at. Now they have the chance to take this talent that everyone told them was worthless and make something of it.
Back in the 80's and 90's they used to make documentaries and fictional movies like this all the time; about people who did nothing but play baseball or basketball or any other physical sport, and they basically fucked up and their lives hinged on some competition to win money.
Playing sports for money is sad too, what are we even arguing about?
Playing sports for money is sad too, what are we even arguing about?
How is doing what you enjoy sad?
Some people are so judgemental, I just don't get it. It's as though not having a 9-5 job makes you a lesser human being.
Or as though taking risks and pushing to do the things you enjoy while sacrificing financial stability makes you a bad person.

I don't get it either why is it sad? It's a Hobby just like any other except here it's your mind that does the work not body.
Stop fucking arguing. If I could I would play games for a living but one of the guys in the video says he juggles being a pro, having a job and having a girlfriend. So it doesn't seem like all they just do is sit by their computers everyday, just battling to do so as well as everything else.
i won $30 at a cs 1.6 lan event once
Would you use epic cinematics to represent a game of chess?
Yes. That'd be pretty cool actually.
Yes. That'd be pretty cool actually.
But the people who play chess, and thus be interested, and thus turn up, would be confused and disappointed, because they'd prefer to actually see chess rather than a CGI wank.
dendi's sister is a fox.

Well, it's not like they are going to be honest and tell everyone "Hey, I stay all day in my room playing games because it's either this or an alcoholic addiction, which thanks to this tournament I now have the money to support". It's not what the advert is trying to sell you.
And nothing wrong about trying to be a pro gamer but if you don't hit it big soon I think you should continue in college and maybe try when you are older, like White-RA a 30 year old from Russia did and took a beating from an edgy 17 year old japanese that looked like a girl in the quarter finals a few months ago.

That's not how I meant it, sorry. I mean that professional sports is the same as professional gaming, why anyone cares is beyond me. I am with you and agree that if they enjoy what they do, why the fuck not. All these people who go "You don't have a future loser" are really biased and ignorant. These gamers have already achieved more than you did at that age and unless you're a fortune teller, you have no rights to guess someone's future and judge them based on that. For all we know the money they get will boost them to become better individuals. I don't really see how being/not being a pro gamer influences your future jobs and careers. It's not like 100% of college grads get a job.
Especially for gamers from poorer countries like Ukraine, the money they win will help them greatly.
Not sure why people are so against the idea of pro gamers. Jealousy or general stupidity?
It's not like them being pro gamers will influence your life in any way. You don't have to be one, you don't have to watch them play, you don't have to pay any attention at all. This has zero impact on you.
Why do so many people feel obligated to judge others on some stupid shit? It's not like they're injecting heroin for money. It's just gaming. This will not ruin their future. It has barely any impact on it, unless they themselves fuck up their future. Being in a pro gaming league is like being in a sports team, it will not change your future, it's just something on the side.

it's a dota 2 documentary looking into the players. not a general pro gaming documentary.
