So, apparently more than 1 leader for each civ.
If they make a male and female leader for every civ, maybe everyone will be offended

I guess we know which one the US will get.

Barbara Bush?
Barbara Bush?
Exactly, anything else would be unrealistic.

Rosa Parks?

Ivanka?
You know for Greece its rare to see our culture in games or done correctly. The best thing for me was in Age of mythology. The ancient greek in it has some mistakes but it was so convincing and just such a good game.
This also makes me wonder, how far will they take this. Will every civ on release get 2 leaders or will they have to limit it to a few, in that case, which ones. The second is more likely, since they only announced this now. Also will we get 'more leaders'-expansions?
Unsurprisingly the comments section is full of people complaining that it's not Leonidas and that she was only chosen to fulfill a gender quota.
It's nice to see that we'll have multiple rulers for some nations at least again to mix up each civ's playstyle a bit though I'm curious how many civs will have two at launch and how many will get a second one either through expansions or dlc. I wonder if the US will have FDR so we have booth Roosevelts, though I doubt they would do that.

Which is bizarre in itself. All Leonidas managed to do was die heroically - Themistocles actually saved Greece from the Persians and was reviled and exiled despite almost singlehandedly ensuring Greece won the war. He ensured Athens had a navy, he defeated the Persians at sea through a mix of trickery and good command and generally ensured the safety of Athens. Of course the Spartans didn't like him and their smear campaign managed to ruin him while they were all wanking off over how good their dead king was.

I mean, its basically certain that she was chosen to fill a gender quota. She never led or ruled Sparta at any point.

The part of the statement that is supposed to be humorous is that people actually think there's a gender quota and that it's not just the guys at Firaxis wanting to add some variety to the roster.
There's no exec looking over their shoulder with a checklist to make sure Polygon gives Civ 6 a good review.
If they are giving civs two leaders then I really hope they give the American civ JFK as the other leader choice.
Have his leader trait perhaps be diplomacy or economic based rather than war, if Roosevelt has war focused traits than perhaps JFK can be more economy focused because iirc his presidency saw stunning economic growth and recovery, and has yet to be matched by any presidency today.
edit: I did some digging and apparently Eleanor Roosevelt was the second leader option for Civ2 with Abraham Lincoln, so this isn't the first time they are doing the two leaders thing. Interesting.

Really? I would assume that they had at least a vague gender quota right off the bat. I can't imagine any other reason to put a person who never even led the country in question as the leader of the country in the game.

I guess you don't know that nearly all civs had 2 leaders in Civ4.

Trying something different maybe? It's obvious that they wont stick 100% to history. One of Civ Vs expansions had Dido of Cartage as a leader. Why does it have to be a quota when it could simply be a design choice?
And even if it is. Why care about it?

I did not, because I only played Civ3 and Civ5.

Don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying they should stick 100% to history or that they can't have some fun with the leaders. It's more that Gorgo wasn't a leader in any sense. Her claim to fame was having a couple good ideas, but mostly being married to the king. It would be like making Michelle Obama the leader in game of the US.
I don't see any reason to have her be the leader of Greece/Sparta unless they REALLY needed another female leader.

you can look back to earlier civs and see that they did the same (worse, even) things regarding leaders. civ 2 had male and female leaders for every civ, and pretty much all of them where not leaders at all, they even had a fem-shaka. so yea, I agree, its basically a gender quota, because they want to have a good amount of female leaders as well. but its no big deal.

Jill Stein.
Leader trait is being unable to produce units that require oil, unable to build factories, and unable to use military civics.

I'd buy a JFK dlc in an instant.
