TRAILERS OUT THE ASS THIS WEEK From Variety:
The upcoming "Star Wars" standalone film, "Rogue One," will follow a group trying to steal the Death Star plans, it was revealed at Sunday's Star Wars Celebration, which also showed a special teaser for the upcoming spinoff. "A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film, Rogue One," the official Star Wars account tweeted on Sunday. Felicity Jones, who was previously confirmed to star in "Rogue One," will play a rebel soldier. The film will take place before Episode IV.
Excited to see a live-action movie surrounding someone else than the Skywalker family! But this also opens for cameos by The Emperor and Darth Vader, holy shit
Here's an info dump as well.
>It's Obi Wan from ANH, the line going all the way through, "Before the dark times. Before the Empire" just as the Death Star is revealed >It's definitely the first Death Star >Though we only see the top half, like a dome against the skyline >"A rogue band of resistance fighters unite to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy!" >The film takes place after Episode III and before Episode IV, Edwards reiterates >But he says "maybe a little bit more towards four," adding that ANH is his favorite film >He says it's interesting that there are nearly no Jedi >It's a scenario "where God isn't coming to save us" >“It comes down to a group of individuals who don’t have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy.” >The moderator is asking about how the film will impact Rebels, which i set in the same time period >She says that they don't mandate things crossing over, but they are aware of the potential >"Real" is the term they want tied to Rogue One >"It's hopefully going to feel very natural and subjective," says Edwards >He doesn't want the good guys to be really good or the bad guys to be really bad >"It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good." >He says it's really about shades of grey >They're showing a still! >A whole group of rebel soliders running in the rain >There's a ship behind them I don't recognize. Midway between an X-Wing and a Y-Wing >Felicity Jones plays... >"a rebel soldier" >He says they wanted a character that show range. Fear, humor and warmth. >"She's the complete package," says Edwards >One of the elements that ties a lot of these filmmakers together is their work on gritty war films >Zero Dark Thirty, Black Hawk Down, etc >"Yeah," says Edwards with a smile, "Star *Wars*"
So we're finally getting a gritty star wars film? :v:
So we're finally getting a gritty star wars film? :v:
To be fair, Empire was pretty gritty. Especially for the time.
To be fair, Empire was pretty gritty. Especially for the time.
Not really gritty, just dark, and they were based on some pretty controversial figures.
This means we get to see old style Stormtroopers on the Big Screen again, yes?
There is literally nothing in the world I want more than a proper military sci-fi Star Wars movie based on badasses with blasters and X-wings instead of Jedi.
Wtf didn't Kyle Katarn steal the plans? Are they just going to retcon that?
Wtf didn't Kyle Katarn steal the plans? Are they just going to retcon that?
Welcome to 2 years ago. The EU was made non-canon when disney took over.
Welcome to 2 years ago. The EU was made non-canon when disney took over.
Fuck that
Fuck that
People working with the licence are still allowed to use stuff from the EU, so things may still show up in the new canon.
The Rogue One makes so much sense for kyle it isn't even funny. I really wish he shows up, would make for the start of a great set of alternative movies from main trilogy
The Rogue One makes so much sense for kyle it isn't even funny. I really wish he shows up, would make for the start of a great set of alternative movies from main trilogy
timothy olyphant for kyle katarn plz
trailer is down
I hope they show the battle at Jacu, seeing a Super Star Destroyer crash and flip onto its back would be god tier [editline]20th April 2015[/editline] Oh its about stealing the death star plans, how unoriginal. This has been done more times than I can count in Star Wars ficition also new link for teaser I don't think this is the same one though http://www.movieweb.com/movie/star-wars-anthology-rogue-one/trailer-teaser
Oh its about stealing the death star plans, how unoriginal. This has been done more times than I can count in Star Wars ficition
4-5 times I think? But none of them have been in a movie, so this is great.
Fuck that
hasn't the EU always been considered "not canon but if it's cool who cares" though
hasn't the EU always been considered "not canon but if it's cool who cares" though
Star Was canon used to be like an Ogre. It had layers. Everything was canon, but it could be overruled by other canon. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canon#Canon_in_the_Holocron_continuity_database That was the canon used by the Lucas Film lore database or something. Before Disney came along. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Holocron_continuity_database
The old expanded universe pretty much counts as an alternate timeline, I guess. If you don't like the sequel trilogy, hey, you've got Heir to the Empire.
Hell they even made action figures for the extended universe if that's no canon i don't know what is I have a Dash Rendar and Grand Admiral Thrawn
Hell they even made action figures for the extended universe if that's no canon i don't know what is I have a Dash Rendar and Grand Admiral Thrawn
Shit, Shadow of the Empire was a huge project that even Lucas was involved in if irc. I had the game, book, and toys from that all at one point.
Fuck that
There's so much stupid shit in the EU that it makes sense, though I would have preferred more selective non-canonization. EU works like KOTOR 2, while amazing, completely throw a wrench in the morality of Star Wars that they do not want. There's also aforementioned stupid shit like the Sun Crusher; it's like a Death Star except whoops it's a fighter and is basically completely indestructible.

Seriously, it has Han Solo and Chewbacca fighting zombie stormtroopers. It's the coolest shit ever.

I may be biased because the Jedi Knight games were amazing, but the lack of Kyle Katarn bothers me...
source? [editline]21st April 2015[/editline] hm http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Zombie/Canon
Star Wars: Commander
4-5 times I think? But none of them have been in a movie, so this is great.
Weren't they trying to nick them off Count Chocula at the end of Attack of the Clones? Or was that just an incidental bit of exposition?
So does anyone know what it is in the trailer that the audience is hollering over? What's getting revealed here, I don't see anything. Is it Yavin IV? What? Oh wait, I see it now... that's no moon...
