DROP THAT ASS DOWN LOW
Who the hell does this guy think he is Brent Domino? Brent Domino is way better. He is right though you don't need any real talent. I think thats someone we've known since the 90's though.
Ha. Well try listening to any song by Will.I.Am. His Autotune subscription bill must be through the roof every month.
I was about to say I was getting tired of these videos pointing out how easy it was to make pop songs but this was great
That was amazing
Who the hell does this guy think he is Brent Domino? Brent Domino is way better. He is right though you don't need any real talent. I think thats someone we've known since the 90's though.
He still did it pretty well
judging by the thread title I thought it'd be about iggy azalea.
I'm disappointed. No "Moves away from mic to breathe"
What gives him phrases based on one word?
"roomie army" Seriously? [editline]12th October 2014[/editline] Making fun of pop culture practices while blatantly stealing something as idiotic as the whole Pewdiepi "bro army" thing is kinda stupid.
"My love will grow when you drop that ass down low." Now that's romantic.
Oh, of course PewDiePi was the first person to call their followers some kind of army.
Oh, of course PewDiePi was the first person to call their followers some kind of army.
said noone ever? what are you trying to start?
said noone ever? what are you trying to start?
He's just saying get over it, man.
I like how the guy makes a video on other people faking crap and while putting an abysmal "clean" video filter onto it. I mean the stuff that makes his skin looks like of a realdoll.
you're getting worked up over something so trivial i'm sure he doesn't see his fan base as a giant population of cannon-fodder ready to go out world war one style.
I'm just saying that something in the video was stupid, that's not "worked up" [editline]12th October 2014[/editline]
quotes
How does that imply pewdipie invented it? He made it popular and so others are trying to mimic idiotic shit that works aka "stealing it"
when these videos are well made and obviously comedic they can be funny (see: brett domino) this guy doesn't pull it off imo. he's not likeable or funny and he just comes off as butthurt and jaded. none of this "lol wow look how easy it is to make pop music" makes any sense though because the skill it took to make even this shitty parody song is infinitely inaccessible to 99% of the planet yeh it's pretty easy to make modern pop music... if you're a good producer with a lot of knowledge. is it easy to make modern pop music that gets to the top of the charts and makes millions of dollars? no i also don't like the way these self-righteous videos present stuff like this as at all factual or representative of pop music, as though everyone in the pop industry fakes their instruments, their lyrics, their rapping, their singing, does nothing but use royalty-free loops, etc. most of the big popstars dont. there's a reason there are producers paid millions, writers paid thousands, to make this music - yeh it's schlock but some people are better at making schlock than others. this video is full of bad technique and errors. the dude who made this video, even with an unlimited budget, would never even be able to get close to the production value of a katy perry track - there's skill in schlock
Put your face away from the mic god damn ever hear of gain staging and trimming.

The law of diminishing returns applies here - record labels pump millions into songs which would essentially just improve the editing, autotune, and lyrics. This is one guy with 0 budget, if he had not-ridiculous lyrics I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I heard a snippet on the radio

This is one guy with 0 budget, if he had not-ridiculous lyrics I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I heard a snippet on the radio
no, the point is that these kind of shitty self-so righteous videos made by young brats with extremely limited musical careers who try to ride on the whole "haha pop music is so bad and easy to make" jaded fad to get easy recognition is getting really fucking insipid. it's the equivalent of that one guy nudging you going "am i right fellas" after he told his awful joke nobody laughs at anymore for the 100th time. pop music was never meant to produce inspired musical masterpieces, it is by nature more of a business in and of itself than it is an art form. people who like to criticize it for being vapid are missing the point. it's like criticizing classical music for not having any lyrics. pop music was simply meant to be that genre that appealed to the broadest demographic, easy-going songs that weren't designed to be too heavy on the ears or the mind. and by the way, like chestymcgee said, anyone could make a basic pop song. but try making one that reaches the top 10, that shit actually demands talent. it's just a different kind of talent.
I was about to say I was getting tired of these videos pointing out how easy it was to make pop songs but this was great
Agreed, the way he breaks down the entire construction of the song is really neat, not something I've seen in other videos like this
I can't stand these kinds of videos. "Here's how to make a #1 song! Trust me, I sold 12 copies of an album on bandcamp." Every time somebody makes these, the songs are absolute trash. Katy Perry is a thousand times better than that song. Also, if a single famous rapper tried to pull the "speed up my voice" bit, they'd be laughed off stage. Nobody who's sold more than 20 copies of an album does that - pitch shifting, in an artistic manner? sure, but that's different than saying Twista or Eminem just throw their voice in a post-production bit and double-time it. There's a reason pop artists sell records, and that's because they cultivate an image, make the right connections, and have genuine talent and marketability. This guy has none of that.

[editline]13th October 2014[/editline] the backtrack sounds so much like this
I agree with this except I promise you that not everyone who succeeds has genuine talent, if their connections and marketability etc are good enough you can pretty much skip the talent thing.
The difference between modern music and music of 20+ years ago is that it's far, far more collaborative. In the past, every member of a band had talent with an instrument. Now? Katy Perry won't make her own beats - she has very, very talented producers doing that for her. People like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are marketable characters - the real talent lies in the production, for the most part. Plus, people have this very outdated idea that talented musicians need to be multi-instrumentalists who can sing. That couldn't be further from the truth. Madlib is a renowned producer who (while I'm sure he plays instruments as well), makes the majority of his music by sampling and editing the music he finds. That ability - the ability to recognize a good sample and adapt it into an entirely new song - is a talent entirely separate from instrumentality and vocal ability. Musicians don't need to play instruments to be good. It helps, yeah, but there are many, many other talents out there that people don't seem to recognize. You can be a shitty guitar player, you can be a shitty music producer. The talent is what differentiates the good from the bad - and the guy in the video is on the "absolute shit" end of the spectrum.

That's probably the error in that way of thinking, there is in fact someone with talent behind the scenes, we just have an older view of what defines "having talent".

It could have been his horrible lighting and him overexposing everything, or just the bad compression. Those fine details on the face end up fading out when in direct lighting with bad encoding.
