Short video, but awesome
It was cool but it didn't seem one-sided enough for it to be a 7 hour war.
I've never seen those combine footsoldiers before, what are they?
ALLAHU ACKBAR
No video is complete without some snackbar-ing.
Wow,Great action! i like this!
Cool, but inaccurate lore-wise.
Why would they be fighting in a desert when by the time the 7 hour war started most of the Earth's population had moved to fortified cities since the Xen wildlife was teleported all over the globe because of the portal storms?
That's just me being a killjoy, though. Maybe it'll still be awesome regardless of that.

Where there not some screens shots/concept art circulating about that. I thought I have read somewhere that there are some pictures of civilians fleeing their homes from a bullsquid in suburban area.
to be fair if you made an entirely accurate 7 hour war machinima it would just be a ton of soldiers getting killed by indescribably alien dudes for twenty minutes and then the story abruptly ending from inexplicable off-screen events. either that or just a shot for shot remake of the Tom Cruise War of the Worlds with random half life sounds thrown in intermittently
should have disabled the horrible envmaps on the crab synth
This reminded me of a gamemode about 7 hour war.
Too bad its development was halted and declared dead:

Portal storms would be much better to make stuff about.
Portal storms: Presumably lasted several years.
Why? Even though Xenian forces were large, they had both Xenian wildlife (= didn't give two shits what they killed) and dead Nihilanth's army (= Vorts, Grunts etc.), so they really didn't co-ordinate with each other. Also judging by the fact how absurdly Xenians were teleported in random locations throughout Black Mesa, same probably happened when portal storms spread throughout the whole word.
Meanwhile they were opposed by highly co-ordinated military forces of all Earth (and with high chance some civils who wanted to participate in removing the mutual threat or other reasons).
7 hour war: Lasted seven fucking hours.
Why? Let's see, put massive interdimensional empire against already crippled human forces. And they didn't even put their worst against humanity.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate 7 hour war, I just dislike how it's sometimes shown as humanity's major struggle.

The Half-life lore about the events between HL1 and 2 is very loose
The Half-life lore about the events between HL1 and 2 is very loose
I always imagined it as something that didn't even involve ground troops. Space ships doing Ion cannon type attacks on major cities killing billions ,etc.

Doesn't make sense to me though. The goal of the Combine would likely be to capture as many humans as possible and use them like they did the other races.
Then again, Breen says repeatedly that he is the one who bargained for mankind's continued existence, so maybe you are right.
But yeah, fighting in the desert makes zero sense. If battles were being fought, they were on the ground in the last few holdouts of civilization.

I remember reading from a site that had Half-Life games' timeline that Combine used primarily Synth forces from their worlds' outposts.
Edit: Yep, here:
They teleport troops as well as drop-ships, gun-ships, and striders from Combine off-world outposts through the Portal Storms, and onto Earth.
Not sure where he got the info about off-world outposts though.
Another edit: Combine Overwiki assumes too that it's likely Synths were the primary forces used by Combine.
I've never seen those combine footsoldiers before, what are they?
for some reason i thought this was some sort of star wars related video because i thought those dudes looked kind of like the droids but then i looked closer and noticed that they looked like combine instead
I've never seen those combine footsoldiers before, what are they?
They're cut enemies from HL2:
Those Star Wars-esque slow things are Combine Super Soldiers and those smaller and faster ones are Combine Synth Elite Soldiers.
They didn't even get as far as getting official models/textures/anything besides concept art, so some people took liberty in their hands to create these things into 3d-reality.

I thought they looked more like the robots from portal honestly

I think that was explained in RtB, When you arrived at eli's hideout or whatever, he was supposed to show a slideshow of what happened when Gordon was in stasis, and that was one of the pcitures supposed to be shown.
If they wanna make a Half-Life movie, this is what it should be about
my left ear really enjoyed that ar-2 sound.
very innacurate lore wise.
they wouldn't have AR-2's.
that combine synth already uses trans-human experimentation eventhough it's the first time combines come to earth.
yadda yadda yadda, there's just so much stuff they got wrong in a 50 second clip, wtf.
the reason so many aspiring video makers get HL2 shit wrong is because half-life doesn't have a unnecessarily detailed lore like star wars, w40k, etc... leaving it is very ambigue. therefore if you get one thing wrong the whole thing looks very off/unbalanced.
did they ever look closely at the AR-2? it looks completely inspired on the human AR-15 which leads us to think that the combine probably made that gun after settling on Earth (again, very ambigue universe: you have to make most of your own conclusions). the original combine's got a very organic and alien look to it, the new combine's got a geometrical essence. why do the combine synth models they chose have human traits even though it's the first time the combine ever come to our planet?
really. if you wanna do a successful half-life video just take a day to read all about it because honestly there really isn't much to read.
(i changed my post because the ending was supposed to come off as humorous but it didn't.)
I really wish the conscripts made it into the game, they look pretty cool.

We have no evidence that the Combine are a space-faring group. They travelled to Earth via Xen and the portals, Mossman even says they were trying to 'tunnel' into Xen with their brute force teleportation methods. The Combine could take over worlds solely through the use of portals, so they would have no need for space ships.
I mean if they had space ships there's no way Kleiner's plan to launch a second rocket to block the portals would have worked. They could just shoot it down, instead they sent a ground for to stop the rocket before it launched.

Combine Super Soldiers were suppose to be strider-sized though. They look silly when they're this small.
I'd buy a 7 Hour War game by Valve.

You'd buy anything from valve if it was in some way related to half life. we all would. we're HUNGRY for half life.
Did the 7 hour war take place as soon as the portal to xen was created in HL1 or did it take place after
They never went into too much detail about it, its interesting to know what happened
Combine Super Soldiers were suppose to be strider-sized though. They look silly when they're this small.
Eh? I'm fairly sure they were meant to be human/only slightly above human height, they were originally meant to be like the overwatch.

After because everything went to shit for a while due to portal storms and then eventually the combine invaded

they'd look silly if they were strider sized
there'd be like gundams instead of striders
