I remember at some point into the EA I gave up with this game being updated but suddenly it got a lot of big updates recently which is really nice. I love the new style they're going for
I love the new style they're going for
Not a fan of the style, reminds me of warsow which I didn't care much for either. I don't mind the futuristic setting, but I'd like to have seen a more gritty Quake-like look wrapped up with it.
I feel like this trailer is incredibly overdone and obnoxious, and it's kinda turned me off from the game. Maybe I'm just super used to chilled out update videos like Wolfire.
oh boy, another 90's style arena shooter that will never pick up and die in under a month of release
This game looks interesting, is it any good? I've been looking for a Q3A style game to play alongside UT4.
There will never be another UT99, and that depresses me.
UT4 is probably the closest to it that you will get right now. UT4 is a lot of fun and its not an exact copy of UT99, I really like what they are doing with the game so far as well. The movement is very fluid and the weapons are nice as well, especially the flak cannon and rocket launcher. As for there "never being another UT99", who says all arena shooter games have to be "like UT99" to be good? I'm pretty sure you can make a good arena shooter game without making it another UT99, even though UT99 was a pretty great game.

And you're right. An arena shooter can be good and "not be UT99". But I haven't seen one even get close.

But I haven't seen one even get close.
The fact that UT4 isnt complete yet is correct, however the reason it has such a small community is either because of the former reason or because of some of the people who absolutely refuse to acknowledge that any UT game other than 99 or 2k4 can be good. Personally, I think the people from the latter need to be more open to new things. And that is also correct from a playercount/critical score standpoint as well. And I think its mainly due to the fact that there hasnt been much innovation in the genre outside of established titles (UT/Quake/Doom). Im sure once we see more innovation happening inside of the genre, that or a really well put together game in the genre using an established style of gameplay, we may get another big title for it.

I've seen a level where you can literally boost yourself up 3 stories with a well-timed triple-jump. It adds a new level to the movement without the gimmickyness that had Warsow had. Personally I don't like the game's art-style and there's not many players on right now, but if you're really into AFPS it could be worth a shot. The game is on sale for 7.50 right now. I'm still sticking to Quake live for now.
The only "recent" arena shooter I saw doing well was Warsow. And that was free.
The games has nice addition of adding double-triple jumps which can only be pulled off if you time your jumps right on ledges.
afaik this isnt new, cpma quake had the same thing
The only "recent" arena shooter I saw doing well was Warsow. And that was free.
warsow's still doing well? last i saw(about a year ago) it was more dead than it was before back in like 2009 problem is i dont think online multiplayer games are a good candidate for early access. it requires the people who bought in early to stay playing, and it requires them to make sure that new players have easily found resources for getting better at the game. if player numbers drop less people will be interested in buying because there's less players, a catch 22 that can't really be solved. multiplayer EA games tend to require popular streamers(like the ones that get 5k+ viewers no matter what they stream) to promote the game in order to keep the number of players high. they also need to be enjoyable and mostly complete at the EA release, not just when the game makes it out of EA. this article goes into more detail. sadly reflex launched in an alpha state without any textures on weapons/maps, i think it has a place in the genre because the mod its based off of, cpma quake, has largely been ignored.
oh boy, another 90's style arena shooter that will never pick up and die in under a month of release
the game has been in pre-alpha for several months and there's a healthy competitive scene (with money) around the game.
