Roger that Illfonic, got you loud and clear over and out.
jeeez i hate these dev blog interview videos. there's so much bullshit in them
[the 3rd person rig is the same as the 1st person rig so you look down and see your feet] - a level of realism we've never really seen before
arma (2009) fear (2005)
"we can fight, first-person style, in a zero-g environment. i've never seen this before except in movies. it's gonna change the way people play first person shooters for years to come
shattered horizon (2009) ... barely anyone played it and it didn't change fps games for years to come
[you should aim down the sights to kill people]... a level of simulation that is lacking in fps titles
every fps game these days?? [editline]3rd November 2014[/editline] as a side note, it's really interesting to see that because this game has taken so long to develop, some of the visuals are already starting to look out of date. like the reflections in the broken monitors and puddles n stuff in some of these shots are horrible. obviously they're likely to be improved upon before release but an engine like ue4 would render them perfectly in real-time without the need for any tinkering. gonna be really interesting to see how it compares when we get to that 2017 release date or whatever it is it's aiming for
arma (2009) fear (2005)
You forgot Halo 2 (2004)
You forgot Halo 2 (2004)
Operation Flashpoint even had it way back in 2001
Operation Flashpoint even had it way back in 2001
oh really wow. i thought it might do but didn't want to say so and be wrong
You forgot Halo 2 (2004)
i wasn't sure halo 2 literally had 1:1 fps/tps head positioning though. like yeh you can see your feet but i couldn't remember whether your head literally tipped forward and backward on the neck when you look up and down
oh really wow. i thought it might do but didn't want to say so and be wrong
Haha yeah, it's crazy. I distinctly recall looking down at my character's tattered, bloody uniform after a firefight. Made a bit of an impression on me (being around nine or ten years old at the time), so that's why I remember it.
Operation Flashpoint even had it way back in 2001
Trespasser had it in 1998, even if the feet weren't actually visible.
Star Citizen may very well become the most overhyped mediocre thing ever seen
as a side note, it's really interesting to see that because this game has taken so long to develop, some of the visuals are already starting to look out of date. like the reflections in the broken monitors and puddles n stuff in some of these shots are horrible. obviously they're likely to be improved upon before release but an engine like ue4 would render them perfectly in real-time without the need for any tinkering. gonna be really interesting to see how it compares when we get to that 2017 release date or whatever it is it's aiming for
It's only been in development for 2 years, not very long at all, especially for a game of this scale. They are keeping up to date with the latest versions of Cryengine though, so as more features are added they've been taking advantage of them.
God damn, the YouTube comments on that video. I wouldn't normally read YT comments, but damn. Major fanboyism.
It's only been in development for 2 years, not very long at all, especially for a game of this scale. They are keeping up to date with the latest versions of Cryengine though, so as more features are added they've been taking advantage of them.
it's been in development for 3 years and will not be v1.0 for another projected 3 years - that's a rather long cycle. while CE3 will be updated and they will try to develop alongside that, like i said i'll still be very interested to see how it pales in comparison to ue4 circa 2017 [editline]3rd November 2014[/editline] at the end of the day my biggest worry is their biggest selling point - the scale. when i thought star citizen was just going to be a pretty, persistent world mmo flightsim thing i was pretty hyped but everything else they're adding just seems lackluster. like i'd rather have a great $60 dogfighting game than a $60 dogfighting, fps, roleplaying, mmo where new ships cost upward of $100. put that on top of outsourced development that stretches halfway across the globe and you've got a recipe for disaster
j shattered horizon (2009) ... barely anyone played it and it didn't change fps games for years to come
Crysis (2007) it was pretty cool but it was basically like playing descent but you're in a suit instead of a ship
Operation Flashpoint even had it way back in 2001
Tribes 2 had it as well and that came out a couple months before
IIRC Starsiege: Tribes had it too. I hate it when developers try to paint something as revolutionary or even unique when it's been done plenty of times before. Those of you saying Star Citizen will be mediocre, I disagree. While it definitely won't live up to the hype, it looks like it's going to do a lot of things that I haven't seen together in a single game, and do them at the very least reasonably well. Here's hoping, anyway.

They didn't actually start hiring a dev team until after the crowdfunding in 2012, and a lot of 2013 was building that team up. Overall they've not been in 'full development' for very long at all, at the end of 2013 their team was still only a third of the size it is now.
"we can fight, first-person style, in a zero-g environment. i've never seen this before except in movies. it's gonna change the way people play first person shooters for years to come
Crysis 1 (2007)
IIRC Starsiege: Tribes had it too.
Really? I played that two years ago and I don't recall that, but I remember it in T2 and i played it a teeny while afterward
Operation Flashpoint even had it way back in 2001
Delta Force had it in 1998, though it took some trickery to ever see it
I like that you can see your helmet though, looks pretty cool.
Star Citizen is going to be the biggest source of regret tears since the London onion flood of 1892 Think of all those idiots who've spent thousands on their pay-to-win cocoons
This thing bothered me specifically. I was hoping they wouldn't go for the "lol gun is bullet hose in hipfire" etc crap. And this is as mainstream as they can get, so I hope they meant something else and just said something stupid.
