My dad told me about this story.
This Bugatti is so rare that you may never see one in your lifetime IRL. The guy bought it for 1 million bucks, and insuranced it for 2 million.
The owner's excuse for this "crash" was that he dropped his phone while driving, went to pick it up and a pelican flew across in front of it, swerved, and crashed into the lake.
But as you can see in this video, this wasn't the case at all.
He was trying to collect the 2 mill insurance claim. He even made sure the engine was damaged by leaving it run 15 minutes in the water.
Son of a bitch.

You would commit insurance fraud?
Good idea.

I don't live in a particularly well-off area and yet there's two within a few miles of me. I see the white one almost every weekend on my way to work.
Pretty sure its a lambo dude

I liked the cute rainbow that came after the splash.

Should've put it in quotes then.

million dollar rainbow
So did the guy ever get caught? This video seems like it'd be the best evidence around.

I've seen a few around my town.

because insurance fraud really ruins your day doesn't it, especially since you have absolutely no idea how brutal insurance companies are to regular people, i've witnessed the douchebaggery of these companies first hand so if one person tricks them into giving them more money, i applaud them even because insurance companies make their living ruining people's days over small things
i'm sure things are different where you live though

Yeah man and lets go firebomb a Goldman Sachs building.
Oh wait, that's ridiculous. Committing insurance fraud because insurance companies are bad is the most ridiculous excuse I've ever heard.

He's being sued right now. Trial is supposed to happen next month.
While I don't think the insurance fraud is kosher I can't say I'm sad to see it go. Seeing the ugliest, most overrated hypercar to ever be built drown makes me smile.
Seeing it again a couple years later still makes me smile. :v:
If the guy wanted to collect on his insurance all he would have had to do was park it in the bad side of town and forget the keys in it. It would have been stolen before he got ten steps from it.
because insurance fraud really ruins your day doesn't it, especially since you have absolutely no idea how brutal insurance companies are to regular people, i've witnessed the douchebaggery of these companies first hand so if one person tricks them into giving them more money, i applaud them even because insurance companies make their living ruining people's days over small things

You do realize they do that because people try to rip them off every day, right? They act that way to cover their losses from people scamming them. 'Sides my insurance company is pretty chill...when I wrecked my first car it was a low-speed rear-ender. No injuries and only my car was damaged. A month later the guy I hit turned out to be a massive douchebag and tried to claim a compact bumping into an Expedition at 20MPH was enough to give him whiplash. They tried to sue.
My insurance company basically told them to fuck off and that was the end of that.
They didn't get out to help him or anything?
Why should they? The guy didn't need any help, he just sort of veered into a shallow pond. there was no reason for them to stop.

Hey, I don't know the whole thing.
My dad was the one that told me, I didn't read it anywhere.
For all we know it was a special edition or something.
That or my dad just doesn't know jack shit about "supercars". (because I sure don't so who am I to attempt to correct him at something I don't know anything about?)
I saw 7 of them at one car show.
the actual story was a guy won the car at some American football match then he crashed it saw some news article about it.
They didn't get out to help him or anything?
Considering that they were listening to Sublime, they were probably too baked to care.

so i take it he didnt get it. right?
No Veyrons that I'm aware of where I live. Porsche's out of the ass, Ferraris and Lamborghinis are all I see. There's a used Carlot selling Porsches for 28 Grand, give or take a few, some as new as 2010. Very tempting

that's fucking stupid, 20mph is not a low speed fender bender and is definitely enough to give whiplash
that's fucking stupid, 20mph is not a low speed fender bender and is definitely enough to give whiplash
They told the cop they were fine on-scene. It was on the police report that there were no injuries. They drove away. If they had whiplash even half as bad as what they were claiming they would have had neck pain on the scene, and the insurance company knew it...oh, and the doc that supposedly diagnosed it was famous for helping with insurance fraud cases.
They made that claim up to try to scam a few bucks out of us. There was no actual whiplash and the insurance company knew it.
Besides that they were in a Ford Expedition and I was in a Nissan Sentra. Their car weighed maybe.....three times as much as mine? They likely barely felt a fucking thing, alerted to the hit more from the sound than anything else.
Duty to rescue?
I don't have one. Most I'll do is call 911 if it's a bad one. I have no useful skills beyond pushing the wreck onto the shoulder with my truck, which is generally a bad idea if it's wrecked badly enough to need a push due to how likely spinal injuries are in a crash that severe and how sensitive those injuries tend to be, and phoning for someone who knows what the hell they're doing. I would just be in the way otherwise.
Idunno if it's on fire and I'm the only one on the road for miles I might stop and help. But if it's in the city and I'm not involved directly? Occupants climbing out under their own power? Just a fender bender weak enough to not deploy airbags? Yeah good luck getting more than a 911 call out of me regarding it. I'd just be in the way otherwise.
