Well, all he said was that it felt like they've been more transparent after that point. It doesn't necessarily.
Although Gabe did that AMA very shortly after that point and I'm willing to wager the two are connected, people were really at their wit's end with VALVe after the gambling thing and that article came out

If the article wasn't true and it still got all the recognition it did I think that'd be all the more reason to become more transparent to avoid similar PR issues?
I haven't heard anything about him denying that interview's legitimacy but the reason it was so widely accepted was because nobody at Valve ever indicated anything different for the past several years

It's an ambiguous statement that can be interpreted to mean nearly anything, depending on what you personally believe. You know better than to act otherwise. Gabe does this nearly every time he's asked something that he doesn't want to answer.

The AMA was in response to the article, at least partially, It dosen't really matter how true it is. Since then they've been more willing to talk about their future games, whens the last time they've done that?
