• Borderlands 2 : The Looter's Guide - Jakobs Weaponry

Hey guys, I just uploaded a video as a part of my series "The Looter's Guide". I basically give an overview of the different weapon companies in the game, noting its general disposition towards certain stats and traits. I also explain what guns the company makes. Not all companies make all types of weapons :) So if you're interested, go ahead and check it out! I'd appreciate it greatly. I plan to eventually create a Looters Guide for all the Weapon Companies down the line. If that sounds like something you are interested in, go ahead and subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/user/Michael24442?feature=mhee Thanks guys!
Do Tediore next
Looks like the series would be interesting, I'd definitely watch more. I've yet to play borderlands 2 and never noticed how diverse they were making the gun companies compared to the first game.
I love Jakobs guns in the game. They're always high-damaging
I prefer the first one you made as you seem to babble on quite a bit in this episode, also you don't seem to know alot of what you're talking about at the start.
Try to say more organized because I had no idea what the fuck you were saying after a while. C + for effort.
Yes, we get it, they're conservative.
The entire video was very awkward
I'd want to see a Bandit guide since I don't get what their catch is.
Bandits are pretty average on everything, but always have huge magazine sizes. Assault rifles usually have 40+ rounds, shotguns have big drum or box mags.
you sorta rambled on and on like a lot you should refer them to their specific usefulness to different class builds [editline]27th September 2012[/editline] and didn't really say anything more than "they click as fast as you can shoot and they hit hard" in 7 minutes
Hyperion Guns: It's like being drunk and holding a pistol at the same time!
You would write down a script for yourself, read it couple of times to see if there's something needs to be cut or added. It's normal  Even funny game reviews like Yahtzee or Мэддисон are written long before they're recorded. Good luck!
I just wanted to say thank you for the feedback including the critical points as well. Now I definitely realize this wasn't my best work, and one of those reasons is because: - I was rushed to get the video done within 3 hours for upload as I had promised my subscribers it would be on Wednesday. - Because of this, creativity usually drains under pressure (at least for me) and I think that shows. I also asked my subscribers if I should use a script as I had used them before in guides prior to BL2, they pretty much all said no, meaning I was to do a guide with basic pointers instead, which I felt, at least for a guide, doesn't get the point across as much, which in this video seems to have been the problem. So I have definitely learned that a script is much more well worth it than practically an impromptu style and while I did feel really depressed after I uploaded because of the fact that it could have been worked on more, I think i've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't, and I have you guys to thank for pointing these things out. (Since subscribers are usually biased in my favor, not always helpful) While I believe the video was decent, it doesn't live up to my standards, and I'm considering revising it and taking the current video down, I guess that little perfectionism in me is nagging at me. So I'm asking you guys (since most of you aren't subscribers) if thats a good idea or should I move onto better projects (most popular manufacturers in my comments are Maliwan and Bandit) since Jakobs is a pretty self explanatory company. I'm thinking if I make a good enough script I can cut the video down to about 4-5 minutes possibly. Again, thank you so much for all the helpful comments about the video and if you find more, let me know! The more I look at it the more optimistic I get about future guides because of this learning experience.
Never rush yourself unless you're under some sort of partnership. Last video I rushed turned out like shit and had aspect ratio errors with overlays.
I personally liked the video and subscribed as I want to see the rest of the series. Keep going, but yes, write a script, practice more! That way it'll be more funny while it's informative. In general, good job on the research, cool enough footage, but yes, script it!

I'm sure that i'll get back to my standards with those guides, but that also means unless I am 100% done, no one will know when I will be uploading it. Hopefully that should prevent any problems that we found in this one. Thanks for subscribing though!
After you've done all this, would you do videos demonstrating weapon groups? Like pistols/revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles, etc.
It seems like all you focused on was the idea behind jakobs. You didn't do any of the rare weapons and you didn't even get the model right.

You should include some info on the manufacturer-exclusive unique stuff as well!
After you've done all this, would you do videos demonstrating weapon groups? Like pistols/revolvers, shotguns, sniper rifles, etc.
Could you explain a bit? I'm not sure how I would make this into a video, just a video on each weapon type?
Could you explain a bit? I'm not sure how I would make this into a video, just a video on each weapon type?
i think he means just doing what your doing with these videos, but instead of explaining the different manufactuers, explain the different weapon classes (for instance, what weapons to use on what enemies, which weapons to use for which class, ect)
Watched this out of curiosity.. Top notch. Liked, and added to favourites.
One thing I noticed was you were always fighting enemies four to six levels below you, which makes the guns seem amazing, when it really isn't just one shot
Im using a Jacobs revolver in borderlands 2, Just because the damage is pretty huge.
The script might be a little off, but I like the series. Good idea to explain the different manufacturers and what makes them unique. Might be an idea to suggest different scenarios and uses for them (although I guess main use would be... killing stuff). It was more than half-way through BL1 that I realised that the manufacturers dictated a lot of the stats, so a video series on this is a good idea. But yeah, like people have already said, some main points to talk about would be good. Video could have easily been 4-5 minutes and be just as informative. Subscribed.
One thing I noticed was you were always fighting enemies four to six levels below you, which makes the guns seem amazing, when it really isn't just one shot
I get what your saying, but its not intentional, I just do all the side quests and I can only assume that over-levels me. I've found very little enemies my level. Needless to say, some enemies a few levels below are still quite powerful in BL2 though.
Unlike a lot of people who make videos, you actually have a good voice that is easily listened to. If your videos are going to be 7 minutes long, make sure all of the content in it is varied. Do a quick rundown of the Jakob's main difference from other guns, and then break the rest of the video down into smaller things.
I liked how the series started, but I feel like this followup episode fell short of the first one quite a bit. I think it's not because the first one was a one time wonder, but because there's just very little to say about Jakobs weaponry. One of the things that made the first video great was how you took the bit of trivia about the PPSH-41 and used its characteristics as a theme to tie the entire video together. By doing this, it looks like you're peeling back the screen Borderlands projects itself onto and giving the viewer a backstage tour. Your Vladof video could've easily failed by just stating what people already know about Vladof: -High fire rate -Good accuracy -Moderate damage But by relating it to this fact, you give Vladof's existence context, which is what viewers find interesting (though not necessarily informative). This is exactly what this video is missing, I think. Jakob's is not an uninteresting company, but it is the most straight forward. The bulk of the video was just you listing characteristics about the company, and while that might work with some of the more nuanced ones, most people know how Jakobs work. Your target viewers aren't getting nearly as much out of the video as you'd like. They want to hear something new about Jakobs! That being said, I'm guessing Jakobs was one of the more highly requested companies and that was the reason you made the video. But I think a big reason you chose Vladof first and why its video turned out so well, was that YOU like using Vladof. I could feel that you really liked Vladof and you had a lot you wanted to share about it, which is why it came first. I'm guessing you did Jakobs second because a lot of people requested it, but assuming your a fan of Vladof and Jakobs is its near opposite, I doubt you enjoy the playstyle nearly as much. Listening to fans is important, but what's more important is that you can deliver a good video, which means you have something you want to share and that you're passionate about what you're sharing. Take both into consideration and make your best judgement. The short and short of it is, in my opinion: - Do companies that are interesting to you. If you're not interested in a particular company but want to make the series complete, save it for later but play around with their weaponry early so you might find something interesting to say. - Add some context. Mention why Jakob's uses wood as one of their materials, even if it's just your own guess. Talk about how Jakob's was meant to represent the wilderness side of things on Pandora, where guns were made to be rugged, heavy, and loud. - Don't be afraid to make it short. If you don't have much to say, don't drag it out. Yes we've heard Jakobs does lots of damage and doesn't play nice with elementals. We don't need to hear it twice for every single type of gun. Otherwise, keep up the great work! I think the series is a great one and I look forward to learning a lot about some of the companies out there, particularly Hyperion, who I never have a good handle on and would love some tips and strategies on, and Tediore, who I'm hoping isn't simply limited to the reload grenade and actually has more to it. You have room for improvement, but I think once you find your style, you'll have the voice, knowledge, and resources to make great videos.

There is so much here that helped my understanding of what went wrong here compared to all the other responses on this thread all together. I appreciated all the comments, but this was the most helpful by far. Thank you so much for this info, and I think your right about a lot of these things. I do naturally stick to Vladof Guns, I have no clue why. I tried to compare Jakobs to the 19th century cowboys and all that, but I'm sure it wasn't as interesting to hear that compared to how a PPSh-41 is similar to Vladof Weaponry. Honestly, i'm not sure how I made this damn thing into 7 minutes, It easily could have been 3-5 minutes no doubt. I guess I was following a formula (used in the first Looter's Guide) intended for more detailed explanations, but since Jakobs is a very easy to understand company, I didn't have much else to talk about and, as we all noticed, I began to repeat statements that were voiced earlier in the video. The Vladof Weaponry guide got the first thumbs up comment i've ever received since I started taking youtube more seriously, so I got excited about that, and felt obligated to make a video on what people wanted to see. Now that I look back on it, I am actually wondering why people wanted to see Jakobs haha. This is quite possibly the best analysis on what worked and what didn't and I thank you for that. As a content creator, its hard to look at my work and find the flaws as easily as the viewer can. Thank you again for the feedback, if you have anything else you can point out on future videos like this be sure to let me know, you're really good at looking at stuff like this critically and objectively and I really appreciate it. The two top comments on my last video were Bandit and Maliwan for the next guide. Although I don't have enough of either guns to make a guide of anything right now, which of the two harder to understand? I'm curious as to which would be more interesting to the viewer. Of course though, i'll take your advice and just pick whatever I like to use, but I'm not sure which is not so easily understood.
