Honestly the dumb hat really improves his dumb costume
This was sarcasm he still looks dumb as fuck
he imagines he looks like the guy from indiana jones but he just comes off as a gas mask enthusiast
He makes good points but all that extra stuff and theatrics make this video really hard to watch.

He's supposed to look like a try-hard asshole that's been his character for ages I'm not sure how people still can't fathom it, even when he's directly said so multiple times.

Maybe if he wants to be taken a serious journalist/review he should stop looking dumb as fuck and stop doing the skits it's not 2004 any more
Idk how that really applies to Jim and his character.
Per usual, he's completely right on microtransactions.
ironically shitposting is still shitposting
The persona he puts on does not change the argument he makes in his videos.

If you look at his written work, which is what his career was built on, you can see why people take him seriously.
Does his hat really have a fuckin corset

What the fuck kind of asinine logic is that. Are we not allowed to have fun anymore ? Must everything be serious business ?
I enjoy his skits. I enjoy the dumb persona. I watch Jim Sterling not only because he makes good points but because I find it legitimately entertaining. I actually don't read most of his written content because half the fun of his videos is him being brash and kind of an asshole.
This entire logic that everyone in the journalistic/video game industry (especially the video game industry) must have a stick up their ass in order to be taken seriously is retarded.

I guess the question is whether most people enjoy it or not. Personally, I find it annoying and it keeps me from watching his stuff.

Well there's 5,575 people giving him one dollar short of $12,000 a month to run his business plus half a million individuals subscribed to his channel so I think it's fair to say there's quite enough people who like it that he should keep it up just the way it is.
The persona he puts on does not change the argument he makes in his videos.
I'm pretty sure the point he was making is that, in the same ironically shitposting is still shitposting, ironically dressing up like try-hard asshole is still dressing up like a try-hard asshole.

Except that line only works when it's used against someone who wants to dodge criticism by choosing "merely pretending" as their last line of defense and it obviously isn't true.
Jim made acting and dressing like a God-blessed asshole his entire shtick, plays it over the top for the very reason and everyone knows it.
Christ, kinda wish the "ironic X is still an X" didn't exist because what it only did is made some kids think they now have the perfect end all argument for "criticising" any humour based on irony or sarcasm.

I don't think so. I think it applies to anyone purposefully shitting up a forum.

Lets be honest, Jim wearing a dumb hat or ending every video with a "thank god for me" isn't all that clever, is it? It's not as if he's making any real point, the whole joke is more or less "wouldn't it be funny if I were a bit of a dickhead" and that's been more or less the same joke since the shows inception. Now I won't argue that the show is without merit in spite of that, I've been watching the show long enough, but let's not all act surprised when people don't take to someone's routine of acting like a low level arse every episode, even if it is just a routine.
Maybe if he wants to be taken a serious journalist/review he should stop looking dumb as fuck and stop doing the skits it's not 2004 any more
Then he'd be competing with totalbiscuit. Nobody would watch his stuff.
[editline]5th June 2017[/editline]
Not saying Jim's bad but totalbiscuit is totalbiscuit.
He's supposed to look like a try-hard asshole that's been his character for ages I'm not sure how people still can't fathom it, even when he's directly said so multiple times.
I can fathom that he's supposed to be a character, I just don't believe it's a valid excuse for the criticism people are giving. I went and found my post about it from a while back, in this thread https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1562468&p=52176973 because I think that the video in question is a great example of Jim's stupid "character" completely ruining his points.
Whatever Jim's saying I really wish he wasn't such an arse about everything. I feel like he just has this obsession with attempting to conjure up some sort of needless shitstorm to cover up how uncontroversial and derivative his opinions actually are. He did it with BOTW too, just because one or two morons in the hundreds of thousands of people who read/heard his views DDOSed him.
This example in question: it sucks that Nintendo discontinued the NES Classic, to make up for it they should apologise and reverse the policies they have in place that people consider bad.
It's not a controversial opinion, and it's likely that the majority of people who disagree with (bar a small percentage of morons we shouldn't bother acknowledging) would at least be willing to listen to his opinion. But he isn't just expressing that opinion, he's insulting Nintendo fans and Nintendo as part of some "character" in the process. And there's no real reason to insult fans, it's just toxicity. It's hard to care about him playing a character when he's made it clear that he's expressing opinions that are 100% his and this is how he choses to do so, also that he's played that character off script in many a casual podcast for hours on end.
He just keeps doing this in one way or another, I feel like Jim Sterling is a man who lives off internet shitstorms and keeps trying to artificially create them to some greater and some lesser success.
I don't think defending him or trying to tear him down is doing anyone any good here.
Seems like all of his threads devolve this way.
While I'm of the camp that dislikes the fluff so I guess I don't see the other side, I just don't get the way the argument keeps popping up and so angrily.
It's not for everyone.
Guys, I have a solution to your problem. Put the video in the background and listen while doing something else.
What the fuck kind of asinine logic is that. Are we not allowed to have fun anymore ? Must everything be serious business ?

I also enjoy his dumb skits and gags. The Cornflake Homunculus after the VGAs for example made me almost piss myself laughing.

But then you'll miss out on all the prawns

A basic example is that I'm watching or listening to a Jim Sterling video moaning about a bad thing Nintendo did and agreeing with him, then all of a sudden he starts insulting me for liking Nintendo games.
ironically shitposting is still shitposting
Why is this "argument" always used? Jim isn't shitposting.
Why is this "argument" always used? Jim isn't shitposting.
Because people try to handwave criticism of his persona with the fact that it is a persona, which is irrelevant to why most people dislike it.
A basic example is that I'm watching or listening to a Jim Sterling video moaning about a bad thing Nintendo did and agreeing with him, then all of a sudden he starts insulting me for liking Nintendo games.
If you're this easily flustered by internet opinions why do you bother hearing them out ?
Maybe if he wants to be taken a serious journalist/review he should stop looking dumb as fuck and stop doing the skits it's not 2004 any more
You sure developed a hate boner for him recently, was it because of his remarks against Nintendo?
Honestly the dumb hat really improves his dumb costume

it's annoying because he has great criticisms and clearly knows his shit, but he presents it in the cringiest way he possibly fucking can
I really can't deal with Jim or his stupid shtick. Maybe I could watch if all I had to deal with was his grating voice but the costume really breaks the deal for me. I think there's some other guy, Johnny I think, who has an absolutely disgusting cartoon image imposed on every video that just makes it impossible to click on his videos.
what are you guys on about? the only time you see his costume is near the intro and at the outro... the part that you can easily skip. 80% of the video is just his voice.
