The man is 55 and looks totally normal for his age though. Why is that sad to see? Childhood icons don't magically stop aging.
I got the vibe that he was understandably pissed about the girlfriend comment (which she probably didn't know about? I dunno) and decided to fuck with her/vent some frustrations. I don't think we can really judge how depressed he is or isn't based off a random interview.

Probably a manic episode, or a now permanent mental state brought on by one. He seems to have been getting gradually more and more like this over time, like with the whole apathy thing.
He's definitely hamming it up a bit though, especially towards the end where he's looking at the camera.

Hahaha, this is some hilarious stuff. Do you guys never say random stuff like that to strangers? I find it really interesting that people are able to see him being depressed or going crazy/becoming senile, to me at least he just seems like he's fucking with the reporter. I do the exact same thing to new people I meet all the time and it's hilarious (albeit my tangents aren't as profound or well thought out since I kind of improv it on the spot). Although the fact that he has stuck with this narrative as seen from a week earlier does raise some questions.

Well yeah it's funny if he's fucking around, but some people really believe the kind of stuff he talks about so it's hard to tell.
