They got such a great community feedback, so now they've decided to make an fps space dogfighting game utilizing the oculus rift.
EVE: Valkyrie (formerly EVE-VR) is a multiplayer dogfighting shooter set in the EVE universe that uses virtual reality to give players the sense of being a real pilot in an EVE Online fighter. Coming 2014.
holy shit this is all that i have ever wanted
Its gonna be interesting to see how this plugs into EvE if it will
Its gonna be interesting to see how this plugs into EvE if it will
CCP can't stand when their modules can't connect to EvE, so it definitely will be in EvE. Some how.
So I can actually have fun playing in the EvE universe and not just when I'm reading about it? A dream come true.
Below the asteroids at the end there yesss
Its gonna be interesting to see how this plugs into EvE if it will
It won't, the only thing I can imagine this fitting into is fighters, and if you did a poll of how many supercarrier pilots wants their fighters to be controlled by mouth-breathing retards, you will find that 0% want that. Not to mention there aren't enough supercarrier fights in EVE to support an entire bloody game. It could tie in like DUST514, except better - they get their own fights, and capsuleers could manufacture shit for them to use. Only problem being that the link between DUST514 and EVE is, well, shit, right now, and I don't believe CCP would improve upon the basics with this.
I've always loved the EVE setting and the idea behind everything, but playing was always another question with the steep difficulty curve, the insane amount of time dedicated in order to match anyone in anything, and the chance that you could lose damn near everything you'd worked for in a single pirate raid, helplessly watching your ship get torn apart. It really is the PVP element that makes EVE so unique and has allowed it to succeed in a world where WoW holds a permanent stranglehold on the MMORPG market, but RPG-based PVP isn't something I can call myself any good at, and paying a monthly fee to get my ass kicked when I have other things to be doing with my time. But a dogfighting game built around the EVE Universe? Hell yes I'm in! Not since "Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3" have I played a good sci-fi aerial combat game!
My Rift is sooooo ready for this. I'll probably have the next dev kit / consumer version by then though. This would make a great launch title.

Where are the spreadsheets?
To bad sound doesn't travel through space.
To bad sound doesn't travel through space.
Capsuleers have systems that reproduce sounds, so they can hear missiles firing and lasers hitting on the hulls of their ships. But that wouldn't be the case for fighters, which isn't a problem, since as far as I know, fighters are AI-controlled, with no humans inside.

They are the only drones that do.

I don't think I could take that for long, sitting out in space, staring out at infinity. I think I might just go a little bonkers.

[editline]20th August 2013[/editline] Where can you get longer recordings of these? NASA has a website with actual space sounds http://www.nasa.gov/vision/universe/features/halloween_sounds.html
