What, I though that they said that they weren't going to include pilotable helicopters, and only include them as "call ins"

Pilotable call ins for a specific period of time?
Pilotable call ins for a specific period of time?
No, I read the PC gamer preview. You apparently spawn as a helicopter pilot at a base, and you can pilot a transport or gunship helicopter all game if you want.
Why 30 round magazines. Like, I know they existed during the time period but they were incredibly uncommon to see in the kit of your rank and file GI.
WHY

Balancing purposes probably, because at the end of the day its still a game.
Oh man I can't wait to play this.

Oh fuck off, that's a idiotically tiny nitpick to be complaining about for something that's obviously a gameplay balancing thing.
This entire game is going to be one compromise after the other.
By the time napalm is deployed and AH-1's show up, the fight is over.
The early gen AH-1's didn't have the avionics of their later cousins, but that nose turret was a 7.62 minigun and a 40mm automatic grenade launcher. That little fancy FFAR run would have been skipped in favor of orbiting the target outside of the range of most dumbfire rockets, and laying waste to the entire encampment. Modern AH-1's use the same tactic, except now they use a 20mm autocannon.
Yeah I was wondering about that too GunFox. I wonder how effective circling the AO and just shooting at a safe distance will be especially when you consider game balance.

It's a Vietnam game though. I don't get why there is such hostility when I point out one of the most iconic weapons of the Vietnam conflict and the principle weapon of the game is portrayed inaccurately for the time period.
In the Rising Storm games they didn't increase the M1 Carbine from 15 rounds to 30 rounds for balancing purposes. They didn't increase the round count of the Garand for balancing purposes.
I don't think 20 rounds as opposed to a full 30 is as huge a balancing issue as you guys make it out to be. It's only ten rounds and it's a video game so you press a button and you've reloaded your gun in under five seconds. It's a historically themed game, the 20 round magazines and M16's are part of the setting.

This is the iconic battle rifle of the Vietnam war.
I even tried to google a picture of a 30 rounder in an Vietnam era M16 and I can't find one. All the 30 rounders were either made in local shops from chopped up 20 rounders and most of those were only used by SEALS and ARVN and junk and even when they started to produce them they didn't find their way to Vietnam until late, late war and in incredibly limited numbers. Even when units got 30 rounders late war they'd usually stick with the 20 rounders because A. They were malfunction prone and B. You couldn't go prone as well with a 30 round magazine sticking out the bottom of your rifle. The 20 rounders were standard issue up until the end and they were always Good-To-Go as far as the GI's were concerned.
The US have Apaches, Little Birds, Hueys, Naplam bombing runs. Why do they also need 30 round magazines to balance out their clearly under powered faction?

It's also a video game, balancing always always always always always takes priority over everything else. And no, it's not like those other cases at all, those things didn't happen in the war, 30 round magazines were used in Vietnam, just not as frequently. And you still pretty much as many 20 rounders as 30 ones in the trailer so both are obviously available. Also, this game could easily just be set in the late Vietnam war and they were used much more widely then. It's completely not anachronistic in any way.
so is there any reason not to play american?
so is there any reason not to play american?
pretty sure that's what america thought when they actually went into vietnam
pretty sure that's what america thought when they actually went into vietnam
american troops had it far better than the nva or viet cong did so i don't get your point
On the topic of m16 mags,
It's fucking RO. The 30 round is either the level 25 or 50 upgrade. Just like how the Thompson gets a drum, the MP-40 gets the double mag, MG-42 goes from a puny 50 round belt to 250 etc etc
Considering both the 20 and 30 round magazines are in the trailer, and this is on the Steam page:
NO CLASS RANKS / WEAPON UNLOCKS
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam's focus will be player skill and balance. We won't be locking content like weapon upgrades, improved player characteristics or new armaments behind a rank or experience system. We want to put the tools to succeed in the hands of every player.
My guess would be that only certain classes like squad leaders get the larger magazine.
At the PAX Panel, they've confirmed that weapons have multiple variants to choose from. The M16 has a 20-round variant that has more overall ammo than the 30-round variant.
You guys also gotta consider historically. The US fucking wiped the floor with the NVA and Vietcong.
this trailer needs more appropriate Vietnam helicopter music

there we go
Some highlights from the PAX Panel.
-North Vietnam gets a SAM site that lasts like 1 minute and shoots down anything above 75m.
-Weapons have variants, so the AK has 3 different types of AK rifles.
-Squad Leaders can be any class now. So if you wanted to you could be a SQL with a M60.
-NV has some cool Commander abilities, like having all dead players spawn on the TL, or Recon that can't be shot down.
-Hueys can be linked with squads to become mobile spawns.
-ANZAC and ARVN confirmed for coming after the initial release.
-There is a Simple and Advanced flight model for Helicopters.
-The Tail Rotor can kill you if you run into it.
I want this game. Now.

I actually like that they used original music for it. Almost every piece of Vietnam war media ever uses the same old licenced music to promote it that it's gotten boring.
An original guitar piece that (at least to my ears) evokes the style of the era? Much better.

What movie even started that trend, anyways? I want to say Forrest Gump, but I know that's wrong.

I don't know if Forrest Gump was the first, but it certainly popularized the association of Fortunate Son with Hueys

Vietnam was not the first war to use helicopters, but the first war that helicopters became a popular use in war. It was quick, mobile, and easy to move over the jungle terrain. The military use it extensively and just ended up becoming a staple in the war.
In popular culture, I would say Apocalypse Now started the popular association with Vietnam and Huey helicopters.

Too be fair every song in that part of the movie is now really associated with Vietnam, considering every new scene had a different licensed song :v:

Dude, at the 1:00 mark there's a soldier using a 20 round mag. They will be in the game. Your historical accuracy has not been thrown out the window
