Well no, not if you want accurate measurements.
You could use a drone boat and all, but in the end the simplest solution worked.

He actually says in the beginning that he did take measurements from the shore and wants to see how the concentration varies towards the center
That's equal to a concentration of 0.74M (in the middle of the lake). That's pretty insane.

He doesn't exactly seem very prepared, I mean, if he was really planning to do it for research, he should had gotten more resistant material for his pants.
