So is Shovel Knight like the indie Mario at this point? Also super excited for this game.

Seems to be, not going to complain though as Sean deserves it, definitely.

Honestly, I'm not surprised- Shovel Knight was the first big kickstarted indie game that turned out 100% fantastic. I mean, how many kickstarted indie games are on store shelves nowadays? Or has upcoming DLC plans for the next couple years? I'm really happy for how it turned out, and I'm glad to see it continue to show up in other fantastic looking games.
banjo&kazooie is really rising from the grave here
can't wait!
Every time I see more of this game, I get more excited for it. Really feels like those old Rare games that have been missing for a long time in the gaming world.
At this point I am starting to think that all you need to do to get Shovel Knight in a game is to just ask.

Pretty much, it's the only indie game that is still keeping true to it's words and releasing all of the stretch goals, slowly. Who doesn't like Butt Butt, anyways?
They ought to make his shovel and armor shiny; it'd look better in this game than matte textures.
Gonna be 100% honest here, I'm totally ready to see Shovel Knight in fucking everything.
This better lives up to my expectations.

pro-tip: keep your expectations neutral if you realistically want that to happen

I'll be honest, it looks a lot like just mediocre nostalgia bait so far.
Like it doesn't really have a cachet of its own so far and just kind of looks like a rip-off more than an actual homage.
Yooka-Laylee is basically meant to be a modern banjo kazooie, it seems almost identical to those games. If the movement and map design is done well then I don't really have anything against that to be honest.

fyi the first level was playable at EGX last weekend (tho just 15 minutes per turn), and there was a ton of reactions to it all over twitter, all of which that I could find were really positive and a bunch of which came from people waiting in line for ages just to keep replaying it. Even tho it's only the first level, if the game really was just mediocre nostalgia bait, i don't think you would've seen that kind of reaction.
Most of the reactions are retweeted here https://twitter.com/PlaytonicGames granted if there was a negative reaction they wouldn't have retweeted it lol, but again I didn't see any negative ones when I searched
ofc we won't really know for sure until the full game is out, but so far tho I think it's looking pretty promising.
Trouser Snake. Genius

Can you really call it a rip-off when it's from the people who made the original? That's just their style, my man.
MN9 set a bad example, but that doesn't mean Yooka has to go the same way. Bloodstained is also lookin' pretty good so far.

When I first saw footage of this game, I thought the same thing.
It seems like it's improved a lot since then, though. It's a lot more consistent visually, and people have said the bits they've played were fun.
I'm more worried about Shenmue 3, which hasn't shown anything of any real value since their Kickstarter.

Reading that reminds me of Breath of the Wild's ridiculous lines:

Good on Playtonic!

I have to disagree. I don't know how else to put it besides that it actually feels like there is a soul to this game. It seems like the makers are having a lot of fun making a game like this again.
