Obviously it's a WIP, so stuff like designs, voice acting, etc. are subject to change. The dude behind this was heavily inspired by Final Fantasy XV in terms of art direction, while the gameplay looks very much like a DMC or Ninja Gaiden type game. Really impressive so far.
in terms of the presentation and quality, as well as the scale he seems to be going with, it looks absolutely stunning. but its weird, it's almost too much like the new final fantasy, down to the look and aesthetic. just weird to have them side by side to each other. i can only hope he finds a way to make it more unique, like that flying mechanic seems cool and if he can use that in a unique way he might have something.

A lot of people have been saying stuff like "this looks just like FFXV" or "this is gonna curbstomp FFXV", even though both games play completely differently, yet they're gonna judge the game based on the graphics. This game is very much WIP, so I'm sure the maker of the game will think of something.
Doesn't look like something I'd be interested in, but it's visually quite impressive for an indie dev. Any words on total budget?

it doesn't look very good tbh but it is very impressive for a single guy doing it, and visually i can see what it's trying to do
it doesn't look very good tbh but it is very impressive for a single guy doing it, and visually i can see what it's trying to do
more or less how i feel about it. it's really really fucking impressive for one guy, but as it goes on it just feels like it's got the depth of a melting candlestick.

The animations and main character (not sure about the enemies, I can't remember) are all made by him, though.
That is damn impressive for a one man game. However, considering the scope of the game (If it is an Action/RPG like recent FFs) then it's gonna need a lot of time in the oven if he wants a to live up to them. I can't wait to see what else this guy does.
umm, do the people posting above me saying it looks "alright" and "i can see what he's going for visually" realize how ridiculous they sound? the dude is literally accomplishing all his goals with an A+, it looks like it's exactly what he's setting out to create.
umm, do the people posting above me saying it looks "alright" and "i can see what he's going for visually" realize how ridiculous they sound? like, visually/production-wise, this is better than what a AAA team puts out in 2016, and that alone should be a testament to how fucking incredible this is, EVEN IF all/some of the assets are purchased. Some unpaid dude doing better work than a team of 10-20 salariad employees, for free. That's not even to mention the fact that he seems to be doing very well in his goal of building Ninja Gaiden-esque fight mechanics.
Well, he's not buying the assets for free, he's gotta get paid somehow, probably from a different job. I'm sure all the assets also come from more than 20 people. And saying that it looks better than a 2016 AAA game is quite a stretch considering we have Dark Souls 3, Uncharted 4, Doom, The Division and many others that look much better than this. It's still very impressive though and actually looks kinda fun. He definitely has talent on the animation side.

The dude is really good at everything, not just animating. He's good at the art, compositing a trailer, cinematography, programming, animation, and design. 99% of the population-- no, 90% of game developers, couldn't even make 20% of one frame of this trailer. Also, you can't just take a bunch of assets and cobble them together and expect them to look good. This guy has done some serious work to maintain a consistent visual style, even if every single asset was made for a generic asset pack. I honestly feel like if this was the exact same thing, but made by an established AAA company, people would be less nitpicky. Literally looks like a modern Ninja Gaiden game to me, I love that game. Somehow, the fact that it's made by one dude makes everyone want to drop a tiny poop on it.
I hope at the release date we will not get a "It's better than nothing" and postpone :smug: But yep it's look very nice for a start and a mix with FF and DMC :) And Unreal Engine 4 is too awsome :D and Powerfull !! Any one know if it will be a Kickstarter ?
Combat looks pretty damn floaty and "finished" to the point where I'd say it doesn't seem like they could fix it. Gonna be hard pressed to deliver something like this with Nier:Automata coming out.
Does anyone else think all the skill animations remind them of Cabal or something. I can't put my finger on it, but that star skill, and several others seem very similar to an MMO I use to play. But, onto the video it does look really good for one guy doing it all. Something I would actually pick up if I had time to play an RPG. With FF15 coming out soon though, that'll have my time.

If this was done solely by a single man, then this is nothing short of impressive quality. I tip my hat off to you, sir.
It looks really impressive for one dev, but I feel he's overstretching his capabilities, with the obvious drops in quality seen in the trailer. No matter how good you are, you can still aim too high.
This could have a good amount of success if he can get a polished playable prototype out and do crowdfunding to actually reach his ambitious scope better. Probably get a few more people on board if he has to.
I think the big open fields will be his downfall. [editline]31st July 2016[/editline] Other than that the game looks really good. I would buy it.
The graphics are by one guy? Impressive.

we should take that kind of info into account when talking about a game, and give it some slack therein, but it should not be the deciding factor into it being a good game. but if all he needs to feel like he made something good is by achieving his goal of being FFXV, then good for him man. that's awesome, live your dreams. but at the end of the day i'm probably not going to play it because it looks really boring past the graphics. open landscapes with little in them bore me a ton. i like the open combat style but it looks very stilted and seems to move very linearly. i'd like something a little more dynamic in my tastes. it also feels very shallow, like he built this really big ass world but the characters have as much depth as a kiddie pool and their goals don't seem clear or anything. people have fought against pretty games with poor stories before, how can this be any different just because it's indie? if his goal was to create a pretty game with a huge story and world, he did it. he fucking destroyed that goal. but if his goal was to also make a competent game alongside that, i dunno. i obviously haven't played it but judging from this very in-depth trailer it doesn't seem like it has all the polish it truly needs (And in a game like this, i'm going to judge it with a fine-toothed comb since everything else aesthetically and in terms of the world seems to have immense amounts of detail.) if that detail is inconsistent, the game falls apart, and this is where i'm coming from, as a game developer and as a consumer of games. [editline]31st July 2016[/editline] it's still really impressive by scale, but i feel that will be his downfall. one-man teams should NEVER make open world games, unless they have the clairvoyance to actually see their game from the perspective of people other than themselves. you can become very narrow minded, and that's awful for a world that needs to be built up like this.
Well polish is definitely something it needs, especially with the very limited sounds, but i'll say this: that combat looks a million times more interesting to me than the sluggish affair that FFXV seems to be aiming for.

blade and soul standalone game?

This isnt me putting the game down and going "psh why is anyoned hyped for this GARBAGE... -.-" even if one guy or a thousand people made it I can still see the flaws while commending the lad for something that is fuckin insane for 1 man to do.

I understand that criticism is important and all that, but honestly, it's possible to say "this looks cool" without also saying "but X doesn't look cool" once in a while. Also, I don't get that people say this doesn't look like a good game without stating why. It looks really good visually and the combat looks super impressive, by any standard, and especially for a one person team.
Wowee! That looks amazing! You coulda told me that was Devil May Cry 5 or something and I'd have probably believed it. Looks like a lot of fun, I loved the way the combat was fluid with lots of zapping about and those frankly awesome bright blue sword-trails. The environments looked nice with lots of COLOUR which is something you don't see too much of these days. If it's sort of open world then the flying power will make it MUCH less boring travelling about and I imagine it'll be great for finding secret areas and such. Highly impressive, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one!
The combat looked really cool until he fought that one rival looking dude. The cracks really start to show there.
The boss fight with the blond dude looks like a blend of gameplay and cinematic without having to heavily rely on QTEs, which is already a selling point for me. The wing dynamic looks to make traveling around easier. For one dude, this is pretty amazing.
