Social media is only as good as the people you socialize with. The guy is completely wrong - it's not Facebook's problem if he's surrounded by crappy friends. That's what the 'unfriend' button is for.
Fb is perfectly fine for me, as long as you know how to customize it to your tastes.
Yeah, you don't even have to unfriend people - just unsubscribe when you see people posting shit and it's easy. I've refined my feed so theres the odd ad but it's nearly all stuff from people and pages I actually care about. It's like anything it's how you use it. Facebook is a tool.
It's very nice for keeping in touch with close friends and old classmates - though it does get clogged up, it's as MelonGuy said easy to just cleanse it by selecting what you want to see on your feed
I only use facebook for non serious things, keep in touch with a handful of people/events, and some apps that require some social media account, and some "Like us on FB for this free/coupon deal at X place".
Aside from that, there isn't much on FB care about
I feel like the vast majority of people who complain about the quality of stuff they see on facebook are the kinds of people other folks complain about in real life
i rarely see posts by people i know, i basically use it as a cool picture depository from all the pages i've liked
blah blah blah blah winge winge people can post what they want to facebook if you don't like, delete them :D :D :D :D :D :D or you can just scroll past it like most people do if its not interesting
Just curate what you see a bit. If someone never posts something you'll actually read/look at, just unsubscribe from their updates. Then go follow someone who actually posts meaningful stuff. Slowly but surely your experience will improve.
im only there cause there's some hilarious pages that post great shit and of course because you're disregarded as a total loser if you delete your account
This guy seems weirdly bitter? That list is kind of odd. Imagine hanging out with a friend on the weekend - "So, how've you been?" but you don't want him to talk about his work, his family, or any recent vacations, trips, or purchases. So what do you want to hear? And his point about instagram was odd - at first I thought he was going to say that FB was redundant because people just share their instagram photos there, but no he was complaining about photos in general.

Yeah, plus there's the great feature to "no longer show posts from this page" on your newsfeed. I don't use Facebook very often, typically just for events or chats, but if one of your friends posts like an idiot then you can hide that away.
I never signed up for Facebook in the first place because I like to pretend my family and friends always has 100% reasonable opinions on everything all the time and don't want to be contradicted.
So what he's saying is that it's bad that people will post mainly about the positive aspects of their lives
You know what I do when my Facebook feed is full of shit I don't care about?
Close the tab and move on with my life.

My phone doesn't has facebook anymore. Just the messenger app.
The main app is an hefty piece of crap that clogs up the phone, the lite version is better but somewhat buggy. I'd rather go through chrome.

There's a lite version?
Also didn't know you could have the Messenger app separate now, I knew they separated but thought they demanded you still have both :v:
If you are super paranoia okay, i can understand why you want to leave Facebook. For me its a platform to easily keep in touch with friends who don't game or use other platforms, i solved the problem of having unwanted items is to properly configure uBlock and to unfollow these crap pages that post meme's and shit, i use Instagram for that.
I just use Facebook for messenger really.

Same, and for making groups and/to easily contact people in my class.
-snip-
Hoped it would be a facebook employee talking about why he left the company, instead got some whiny person complaining about "issues" that can be avoided by using filters.

You don't think he would have considered that?
Apparently analyzing culture is whining.

You can have seperate messenger for a while now, and yea theres a lite version. On android devices it takes like 1mb or something, in comparison to the regular app that takes like 200mb, or at the very least 100mb, and is really buggy. Lite version is buggy aswell, so I just use chrome if I want FB, which I never do...

I like my wall
I use FB to keep track of upcoming events and to chat with people I haven't had contact with in a long time. I wish there was a way to turn of the entire feed.
WORLDSTAR!....Seriously.
My Facebook is a chat client, I literally never "browse" it.
I have like 6 people on Facebook (reduced from 50) and now everything's fine.
Last time I had a Facebook was in 2012. I just honestly got sick of seeing all of the drama posts from friends I had in high school and constant posts saying I should play some sort of shitty Facebook game. Even then, I rarely talked to people on it, so I didn't view it as a necessity.
And you know what, after completely removing it, my life has actually been pretty damn good. And seeing how much Facebook has changed for the worse over the years, I'm sort of glad I jumped ship.
Social media just really isn't my thing. The only social media account I have is a Twitter, and that's just to keep up with some news sources or topics I'm interested in. I rarely ever tweet anything out or talk to people on there.
i use facebook for ironic crippling depression dog memes and black people twitter reposts
edit:
what, you dont like black people twitter?
I don't know.
What about my parents? Should i unfollow them if stuff like that happens?
