it's just an excuse to get rowdy. It's hilarious that I keep seeing "idiots rioting over hockey". Protip: They aren't, these are just assholes getting incited by other assholes. Correlation doesn't equal causation.
No it's not just over the hockey game. It was a small thing initially, but an anarchist group instigated further riots. They took advantage of all the anger from the hockey game and pushed for big riots.

I love how many incredibly stupid posters there are saying things like "RIOTING FOR 3 DAYS" and "IT'S ALL OVER HOCKEY". Anyone from the area can tell you that a bunch of people came to the game drunk with hammers and molotovs and were just waiting for something to go wrong to start some shit. It was less than 0.2% of the population of our city rioting. Within 2 hours of the riot starting over 9000 people committed to helping clean up the city next day, and the city got together and took pictures of all the people who rioted and had them arrested.
Some gigantic morons who don't have a fucking clue what they're talking about are trying so hard to blow this up.

It's because they're not. They are most likely unhappy about a certain aspect of their society. The game itself was just an excuse to express this.
AKA they just want to riot.
And i don't blame them, riots can be actually very fun as long as its not your car that's getting turned over and bombared with molotov cocktails.
