As far as the monkey selfies go, court ruled that intellectual property does not apply to the owner of the device used but to whoever generates the content itself, and since copyright law only applies to human beings, the primate could not be considered by any legal means the rightful owner of the photographs. Thus they were dumped into public domain. Wikipedia currently hosts these pictures as part of their public domain database.
